Today's video is a simple BTS video showing a photoshoot I did last September with Karina modeling at our local photo spot called The Hidalgo Pump House. I used off camera flash (the Godox AD400 Pro) plus the modeling lamp on my light for these shots as you'll see in the video. =)

Definitely, keep the BTS videos coming. I have to admit though, that light stand and the narrow way that the legs were positioned triggered my OCD LOL. It's a good thing you had an assistant to help steady that.

Hey Francisco! Im a fan brother... you definitely are a talented man. I have been using the GODOX Xplorer for probably the last year and a couple of months but my biggest challenge is the post shooting editing. I would love to see a video like this one; then not only the before and after but the editing process of those images. My pictures are way behind your quality. Thank you for sharing your talent brother.

Nice work as always. You have a great eye for model placement in scene and lighting. For a lightstand. Try the Nissin NDLS 65c. Holds 6.6lbs, goes to 8 ft and the legs spread out wide. Expensive but you don't have to shrink the base legs to get it to work. ;-)

Hey Francisco, I hope all is well. Congrats, nice work Mate!!! May I ask something? I can see that you used your AD400 very close to your subject and I was wondering if it has power enough to use it a few meters from the subject. How many meters far from your subject do you think we can use the AD400? I need to buy a new flash to shoot some sports and I'm between AD400 and AD600. I'd appreciate your advice. Best regards

Why are you not using Ad200 right now? No power or other reason? What do you recommend for a person who wants to start playing with light is 200/300/400?
@fjhphoto

I'd recommend the 200 for most people from those options. For me personally the modeling lamp is something I use a lot for night shoots so I use the 400 the most.

Francisco...I’m a year in photography. Loving it and learning from you. Question, I’m so confused about when to use HHS. I have Godox HHS speedlight 80cm SB but my camera can only go 1/4000( Yes I’m still a padawan) at 2:50 you got 1/1250 the same effect as 2:19 1/8000 at F1.4. My lense at the mo is max f2. I’m learning HHS is needed only for f1.2-1.8 (bokeh outside) or am I understanding it all wrong?

Wez My Meds? The steps will always be like this; expose for the ambient and then add flash. When you expose for the background wherever you are that is when you determine the settings. I love wide apertures so that's why I always use the widest which is usually f/1.4. I also try to keep my ISO low so that's 100. The only thing I adjust most of the time is the shutter. And you change the shutter depending on how you want the background to look. The shot at 2:50 is 1/1250th because as the shoot continued the sunset started to get darker. That meant if I used 1/8000th that the sunset would look darker. So I brightened the sunset by using a slower shutter. The flash was at 1/4th at 1/8000th then I lowered it when I used the slower shutter. Hope this helps. If you need me to clarify anything let me know. 😊

A quick tip, at times when you need to drop your light output below the available option, keep a few 10x10" sheets of ND filter gel in your camera bag. They come in different levels and can be layered to increase the absorption. Check it here at B&H: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/l-search?q=Rosco%20Neutral%20Density&N=0

FJH Photography, I enjoy all of your stuff on KZbin, thank you for taking the time to share it with us! However, I am wondering if you plan to use any plus-size models in the future? This is the first video I have seen anywhere that shows that when it's too dark, you simply can't use the flash (because it's too bright) so you have to use the modeling light. Do I understand correctly? If so, thanks a ton!
@SusanneGeert
@SusanneGeert 4 ай бұрын
At 3:17 where you write "started with flash but it was too bright even at the lowest output" - does this suggest that the FJ400 could actually be a bit too powerful for a shoot like this (and that an AD200 might be more suitable)? I am asking because I'm looking to invest in more flash light. Thanks for a great video ☺

Could you not have used an ND filter instead of putting the shutter rate so high? Like 1/8000 shutter rate seems kinda unecessary. A good photographer doesn't need to over-compensate their settings.

That horrible mixed lighting is what CTO gels are for… Slap a heavy orange on the strobe to match the street lamps and then adjust the white balance of the file to where you want it. Other than that, loving this to see the 400 Pro in action. I just got my first one with a Profoto adapter to be able to use the flash head grids and zoom reflector with it, and I'm also loving the 10th stop increments. I just started using a light meter, and 1/3 stop increments with my 600 Pro drive me insane. Will be getting more 400 Pros as I become able!

I actually wanted those rich orange colors in the street lamp shots, but yeah I do need to use gels more often in case I don't want orange backgrounds.
