Hi Dan great video. Dan it is worth mentioning that the power probe test - feeding a glow plug with a constant 12v would destroy some types of glow plug out there as they are only designed to be fed a pulse width modulated power supply only and will burn out in a matter of 5 or 6 seconds. again excellent video

Great Job as always Dan.. Ohms Law for the win. 😀 In my electronics class (36 years ago now) I was taught to use this in a pie. V over(divided by) I times R. It also works for wattage P over I times V. Just makes it easier to visualize the math needed to accomplish the variable your wanting to know. Love your videos Dan..Keep up the great work. Cheers

I like that you use the term "path to ground". It clearly expresses an important concept for people learning about electricity. It may also be useful to introduce the term "conductivity". Many people have never studied basic electricity and find the concept of resistance mysterious. Resistance measurements can be misleading, especially on circuits with glow plugs, heaters, or lights. Current does not lie. Thanks for another good video.

Really lovin’ these videos, you have an excellent delivery style matched by your logical diagnostic approach and obvious subject matter knowledge. Where I think you really score is when a test doesn’t give you the result you expect you keep at it, rethink using the new evidence and go round the loop again, most seem to give up at that stage.

My 92 diesel the control module always went out so I by passed it and installed a push button over 10 years ago and I have never replaced another glow plug. ... as I deleted the EGR system on my car , I loosed the EGR cooler together with his cold start engine initial warm phase which was very useful to speed up the engine warming process. to compensate this I mounted an supplementary heater , a glow plug heater system (with small glow plugs) and I have calculated and monitored the current consumption just like this! very good info and very good and simple explained! thank you Dan and all the best! always a pleasure watching your content! More a case of older systems using just the one lead from the relay to power all the pre heaters in the stuff I'm used to working on, I have an old "clip on" Amp clamp thing that I bought from Mac Tools in about 1996 that I still use, but it's not able to measure each lead, only really the larger cables, and it's a "Swingometer" thing as well. Just time I updated. I like getting my money's worth out of kit... I still have Whitworth spanners from when I used to work on Jaguar XK120's... The ability to measure current draw from just one component is going to be useful. Thanks again Dan.

Very nice video Dan. Thank you! What we have seen around my area is not qualified mechanics to execute simple tests like those you performed. They grab their scan tool to look for a code and when they find the one they replace the part. Than, the code comes back and they are lost. They are parts replacers. You did a great job explaining the logic of how the glow plug system works. Again, thank you for educating people! PS. 1-Nice tools! I know what you mean by "the lack of use or practice plays a huge part". I learned quite a bit of Spanish ~30 years ago, but despite reviewing every couple of years, having no one to practice with, I still couldn't hold a conversation. I wouldn't want to seem pedant, and the YT comment section isn't the ideal place for a course in electricity, but if you have a specific question concerning ohms law, I'd be glad to try to help.
