@Warfender Hey man thanks for checking out the lesson. The chords are not diatonic... meaning they don't all fall within one key center. To get really specific the chords are - Am7, Bbmaj7#11, Cmaj7. The corresponding modes would be A Aeolian, Bb Lydian and C Ionian. Saying that, if you're practicing the pentatonic scales over these chords you don't have to think like that. Hope that helps mate. Scott.

Great lessons Scott! I have always used pentatonic scales having a blues approach but have never thought of pentatonic major scales! I usually find the chord root and test the third if the flatted third works I play minor pentatonic runs if it doesn't then I play major scale style runs but it never occurred to me to play pentatonic major scales really cool like I said love your lessons thanks again!

It's hilarious how many people commenting think you wear the gloves to prevent sweat and to get "that great tone" - and want to know where they can buy some. Regardless - a great lesson! A little bit of overdoing the "shake" but spot on accuracy. Chord tones, arpeggios, and pentatonics have completely changed my playing for the best.

@Ingratil The scale degrees of the major pentatonic are 1-2-3-5-6 while the scale degrees of the minor pentatonic are 1-b3-4-5-b7, but you'll find the exact same notes in say C maj as you do in its relative minor Ami.

so basically you use pentatonic scales to help make licks or can you expand/mix it with other scales to make root notes/licks with it?
@morenoh1493 жыл бұрын
I'm a noob. But its seems like the pentatonic makes the ear want to keep listening for a resolution. So its good for licks (improvising, fills) and good choosing a next root when jamming.
@Warfender12 жыл бұрын
@devinebass Not diatonic is what I was presuming, but just wanted to make sure, as I was confused if it was around a single key center. Very cool lesson. I do something similar to this, but in Diatonic more like you later lesson doing a penatonic each side of C for 3 postitions. I have one also for all five pentatonic shapes in the mode postions. I like this one as it breaks me out of my normal practice rutine!!!!

Hey Scott. Thanks for the video, man. A question regarding using either the major or minor pentatonic scale. Do you play either one depending on the chord? When you were doing a run in Am, were you doing the A minor pentatonic, since the chord is a minor chord? And, the B Major pentatonic when doin a run on the BbMajor, and so on...
@apostalicminds3156 жыл бұрын

Nice lesson, but I'm a little confused. What modes are you playing in? Your Am,Bb,C progression I don't follow. Are you playing Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian progression? The pentatoninc scale fingering is different than the Aeolian you show and the Mixolydian is different than the Ionian you showed. So I don't follow the chord progression verse fingering, Please, can you clarrify is you are just doing some arbitrary progression and fingering here.
