Oh my goodness!!! Gorgeous!!! Really catches the eye!!! I had to stop and watch this just from seeing the thumbnail of this vivid picture! You are such a talented artist and so willing to show us your tips and tricks you use!!! I have a 17yr old daughter who has won pretty significant awards from her high school for her entries into the communities art contests that her art teacher has entered her in and she has never had any professional art lessons other than that of her art class in HS and watching your videos to learn different techniques! She really enjoys learning from you and says how easy you are to follow for her! So as a mom, thank you! And as a crafter I love watching you create all sorts of things and getting your frugal tips! It turned out beautifully 😊 PS: putting powder blender down first is supposed to help blend pencils that don't blend well (usually wax based pencils) but I find it doesn't help that much! I usually just stick to oil based pencils with powder blender 😊 Also, to get your darks darker, Alyona (the creator of Brush and Pencil) reccomends to use the textured fixative after every application of powder blender! I find if you keep layering with powder blender, it tends to knock off some product and doesn't build up saturation very well, but if you spray the textured fixative in between every layer, it really makes a difference! 😊

Hi, loved the video! I’m just watching it before I set off and buy some Brush & Pencil stuff, been wanting to do this for about 2 years. I really love Lachri Art too, but your video was shorter...! Also thanks for mentioning “if you give a moose a muffin” - I had never heard of these books so I think my daughter will really like them! I’m hoping to try to do some really old-school still lifes with grapes and stuff, maybe try working from dark to light like they do in oils... I like the idea of creating something that looks like a traditional oil painting but with coloured pencils!

I had been introduced to this product through Lisa's videos also and was intrigued by the blender, so picked one up. Then I watched one that she had done of a horse and saw how she used the texture touch up to add more tooth back to an area that wasn't holding any more layers. Naturally I had to go back and look at that. I finally opted to get the little kit for $50 which saves a bit on separate costs. They really are amazing products. I enjoyed this immensely. It's a bit more time consuming to sit through LIsa's more detailed paintings, so this was a great way to see the way this works in a more viable time frame. Thanks :)

Thanks for sharing your experience! I just bought a couple of those products but haven't used them yet. You may want to try using a solvent, especially when laying down the first layers. It may fix your grain issues and give you the ability to layer more.

Love your work, it is beautiful. I have used the powder and fixative before and yes it works best pencil first then powder then after a few layers use the fixative and continue on (learned that technique and the products from Lisa too). I had no idea that it only worked with oil based pencils, thanks for that tip.
@thefrugalcrafter5 жыл бұрын
Actually I learned that can be used with wax pencils but you need to put the blender down fist and go really light. I tried to use them too heavily when I tried then so I got a grain and they felt gummy. The oil based are far easier or any dryer pencil tho. I just wanted to correct my misinformation:)

Hi Lindsay! I'm hoping you can help me. You used to have a watecolour tutorial for this absolutely gorgeous, colourful cityscape of something like a dome (church?) and other buildings, which I believe you said was from a picture from Rome. Hi Lindsay so I am a Gamsol junkie and I’ve become very comfortable using this as a medium to blend colored pencils such as prisma color which are my favorite. Is this the product you think I would need if I were to switch to the type of colored pencil that is oil based, or am I pretty much good with using my Gamsol and prismacolors without having to buy a whole new set of pencils and products to blend them with?
@thefrugalcrafter5 жыл бұрын
Hi Benny, you can use gamsol with the oil pencils too so I'd only get the powder blender if you are curious and have the oil pencils. I think it's faster than most but you need more stuff and special paper.
@bchaveztx5 жыл бұрын
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich thank you Lindsay I’ve never had the oil based colored pencils but I have enough wax type sets I’ve decided it would be redundant to buy another type of medium just to try a new blending medium. Thank you so much for these reviews. They really do help influence my buying decisions. And while my husband might disagree with me, you’ve helped me save more money than he thinks I actually spend. You are one of my favorite Art/Craft YpuTubers on the platform. I hope all is well with you and yours. Namasté my friend.

Lindsay, I'm a little confused about this product so maybe I need to watch it through again. I don't understand the purpose of the blender powder and how it is different from using gamsol or a blending pencil. Can the powder only be used with the oil based pencils? Does it give a different result? And why the sanded paper? Maybe it would help if you did a more detailed video comparing the different types of pencils, with their appropriate blenders and what paper goes with each. 🥺

I like my paper to be smooth, the harder texture just causes pencils to leave rough chunky work on the paper, and causes clumping with the super soft like fabrel.
@ChristinaTodd19705 жыл бұрын
I watched this all the way through and then watched it again. I think you’re right, maybe you shouldn’t have used the titanium white in any areas that you wanted to keep dark. I see, watching it the second time but knowing what you said the first time, that the white really did take over those areas. But still, it turned out amazing for your first time! Next time you’ll have a little experience under your belt and can come at it with the knowledge you’ve gained. It looks like so much fun! Maybe it’ll give me a reason to use my Polychromos that just sit in a pencil case totally abandoned and unloved, lol. (Right next to Prisma, Inktense and Albrecht Durer 😵) That’s full-set-syndrome run amok. Oh! I was also thinking maybe you should have sprayed it with fixative before you went in with the Prismas? To seal in all those layers? I don’t know, clearly,since I’ve not tried it.

I always watch for that 20-25% off sale at Dick Blick. I have these and still haven't tried it 😂. I gotta expand out of watercolor. I do want to play in other mediums. I feel like Lacri Fine Art talked about this graininess thing before but I forget what causes it....ha! Found where I heard her talk about it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWjJpJ2gpa6lrLs. It's in her first impressions video of the powder blender. It has something to do with too much pigment laid down at one time instead of light layers. The thing with laying down powder first is when using wax based pencils. With oil based she said no need to lay the powder down first. Gorgeous painting 😍💕👌😊 ❣️👍 And oh! She worked on gessoed paper while waiting for the sanded paper. I know most of us have gesso somewhere. Dang, now I'm inspired to try this now. lol I have all the stuff.

What a beautiful sky! Thanks for sharing. The maker of the products, Alyona Nickelson, has videos on her site brushandpencil.com/ showing how to use each product. It does work great on quality artist-grade paper, and admittedly, had this product been initially intended for working on grit paper, I may never have tried it. (UArt is SO expensive). However, the results with the grit paper do tend to be quicker and more vibrant! (The layering of the paper first with the blender is for when one wants to use wax-based pencils instead of oil-based, but it does leave a powdery/gritty feel that I don't like working on). Oh! - I knew the titanium and and touch-up mix is great for animal whiskers, but I love how you used it to create those bright highlights! Thanks again!!

Nothing specifically to do with content of this video, but, recently on another artists/ crafters channel, I can't remember who's, someone had commented, and I honestly can't remember whom, they commented that they have had to unsubscribe from the frugal crafter, stating that she talks too fast, I replied to their comment stating, just turn playback speed down to 75%. I find you do talk fast, but that's just you, it's just how you are, and my conditions that limit working memory and processing speed don't help, I often have you turn down to 75%, but it's no problem, n I certainly don't see it as a reason to unsubscribe. You certainly know what you are talking about and you have loads of money saving tips, it's just a shame that so many of these products and stores that you talk about we don't get in the uk, so far, I've not found anyone on KZbin in the uk whom is as good as you are on these subjects.
