Lechon and Adobo are not quite commonly referred as "street foods" so if you like freshly cooked ones or wanna taste the full experience, go to certain Filipino restaurants such as Manam, Aristocrat, Kanin Club to name a few. You can also order notable Filipino dishes on this type of restos. For street foods, the common foods you need to try are Balut, Isaw, Betamax, Adidas, Pares, Lugaw & more. You can also visit Binondo (the oldest Chinatown in the world) for notable Chinese foods such as Siopao, Siomai, Beef Mami & more.

I'm currently watching this now at 12:28am Calgary Canada time. Let me just say, taking the ferry on the Pasig River is a FIRST for any travel bloggers who explored the Philippines. Looking forward to more first. Let me suggest, comparing the quality of Filipino dishes served on street, carinderia, filipino restaurants and first class filipino restaurants. Nobody has done that, comparisons between all four. It gives a good perspective for any future travellers to the Philippines.

most pinoy food stuff are strongly flavored because their designed to be paired w/ rice, w/c in essence neutralizes the robust taste of the viand/s. that way, it creates a harmonious melody of tastes and flavors in one's mouth. btw, sisig, especially the sizzling kind, goes best w/ ice cold brewskies - especially if it's red horse beer.

You must've heard by now that Filipino dishes are traditionally eaten in tandem with rice and are not meant to be consumed separately. Their usually heightened savory flavors are modulated by rice that temper them with that certain sweet starchy flavor so that the combination results in a different taste and aroma altogether with the main dish providing the major anchor. New sub here.

Great upload guys, it's pronounced Leh-chon and its basically whole roast pig the sauce usually is a sweet thick sauce made from liver but may differ in some places but, also it is not an everyday dish its actually considered a luxury cuisine as spit roasting a whole pig is expensive (though lechon porkbelly is fast becoming a thing) but there are markets and restaurants that sell them by weight. FYI Cebu is considered to have the best Lechon in the Philippines something to consider going forwards. Goodluck and have fun guys.

Pronounce as "Let-chon", basically a roasted pig with herbs and spices inside. Vinegar and spicy sauce the one you tried is the southern version, while commonly in Luzon island (Metro Manila and the rest) use sweet liver sauce (aka Sarsa). Anyway, explore the entire BGC area like Bonifacio High Street, Uptown Areas, Forbestown Center, Burgos Circle, etc. Basically, it is like in NY in the US streets are in numbers up to almost 40s street, 5th street is the main avenue. Great video Guys. From the use of public transportation to the hunt for local food. Sadly, the ones you found (for the adobo and the lechon) were not the best representations, especially with the adobo which you said was cold and the sauce looked anemic. As many have pointed out, you should try lechon from Cebu. Albeit, lechon can be regional in flavor. For example, the most common lechon in Manila is not as seasoned as a Cebu lechon and you usually eat it with a liver sauce. Cebu lechon is more seasoned with herbs and spices and is usually eaten with vinegar.

Nice seeing you guys roaming around and exploring the city! Anyway heads-up, Filipino food is usually paired with rice. Also it’s best to ask people how to eat it if you’re not sure. If it has a sauce, ask them how to mix it. Usually the sauce is soy sauce with vinegar, chilies and calamansi. I suggest trying staple foods first then trying street food. The street food is like in thailand and it’s usually cooked fresh . With regards with food staples, try sinigang (worlds best sour soup mixed with your choice of protein), legit lechon since you got I think is cebuchon,lumpia (looks like an egg roll), pancit just to name a few..if you’re not see just ask filipinos! Btw since traffic is bad there, just do grab instead of jeepneys just to save time.
@rodcastillo18112 жыл бұрын
I second the suggestion to try sinigang - which is another "national" dish. Some blog or TV station or magazine labeled it as the best sour soup and your visit tot he Philippines wouldn't be complete without trying it. Make sure to try it with or without the national dipping sauce...patis!

Hi there. You've got to try the taste of the best Lechon in Bacolod and in Cebu. They are the country's best places when it comes to Lechon. With Adobo, you've got to try it in a cozy restaurant here to appreciate the real taste, or might as well in a home made filipino cuisine. adobo is a way to preserve food in the hot climate of the Philippines. With vinegar it's almost impossible to spoil. Serving it cold is ok - some actually prefers it that -with hot rice. Adobo is actually better the next day when the sauce has really sipped into the meat. Lechon is a fiesta or celebration food - eaten normally during festival days because of cost and long preparation. What you had is actually the belly version, typical lechon is a whole pig roasted -with the best part being the crispy skin.... As to who has best adobo, Bourdains' Part's Unknown got it: "It's your mom's adobo." This is why -for restaurants Filipino always seeks the one with "home-cooked" style cooking. Try the cooking at different carinderia (Aling Sosing in Makati is probably best in the Metro) or turo-turo (point-point because you point what you want). Usually best for the money -not lacking for taste and flavor than the ambiance.

Sisig is usually made of the bits from the pigs face, ears, nose, etc, Lechon is actually very slow roasted pig in an open pit. Lechon sauce, the gravy is liver sauce.
