Totally a random observation, but I appreciate your partnership/financial disclosures. Not only is it honest, but as a viewer, it lends HUGE amounts of credibility to you as a content provider. I don't care if you are compensated (in any way) or not by others. I just want to be aware of it. Great vid!

I believe hirst molds are tin cure, which lasts much much shorter than platinum cure silicone. I have some platinum molds that have lasted hundreds of casts with no issues and a couple of tin cure that degraded after about a dozen. If you make your own molds, put in the extra $ and buy plat cure silicone.

Interesting that I have more luck with putting my molds and resin on the window sill to warm up before I do a pour. Also I have had issues with bubbles so it might be moisture on a colder day!

So i would love to learn how to use resin, and how to create such mold myself... but i have no idea where to start, material wise... because i live in Denmark, and we dont have the same kind of provider as you do. so much of the stuff you use is harder for me to find "over here". I am specifik looking for a good beginner amount, that´s also not insanely expensive. this counts both for making molds that i can remove and hopefully reuse. but also what kind of resing i should go for?... and what type of materials i might use for color mixing. now i dont know if you have any of these tips for me lukas, but if you did. i would appreciate it. Love your videos... seen a lot of them for inspiration lately. Loved the Wizard tower, and are seriously aiming for that level of detais in my future builds.

Good video - have you thought about using some of the more durable casting plasters like Herculite, they don't smell and are much cheaper if you don't require the absolute strength of the polymers.
@AzraelThanatos

One thing that is rather cheap to do in order to upgrade your casting with anything there. Buy a large box fan (The big square ones work best, ones without things on the front of back that stick out). Place it facing upwards with supports underneath it (Between chairs, bricks, 2x4s, whatever you have available that would still keep the top level. Set a piece of wood such as plywood or similar that covers most of the top of the fan, you want a rim where air can escape if you place it ontop. You can wrap the wood in wax paper or other things for a nonstick, solid surface. Place your moulds on the platform while the fan is on, you have a good vibration table for the casting and you have even less chance of there being bubbles in the moulds.

I have the same molds you have and was talking to my previous dentist about how some of bricks have air pockets in them he said he had an old dental vibration machine that he no longer used and gave it to me sure enough it got out all the air pockets, but I am not sure how well it would work for resin casting , I think I will try with resin next time I mold some bricks for my structures. Good video , did you use any mold release for the resin bricks?

I did some resin casts this week on the Hirst molds. In one of the pores I ended up having the resin stick to the molds and it pulled pieces of the molds with the resin. This happened to be the only pour that did not have a release agent of talc put down first. It seems to me if you want to extend the life of your mold you need to have a release agent. Thoughts?

i have a problem... and u might have the solution! i have made some converted miniatures, with some green stuff, and i would like to copy them to make a troop of these converted soldiers, how can it be done? what materials can be used? how could i use the resins u showed to do that job? could they work? to understand the type of miniatures i am talking about they have kinda the complexity of your IG Praetorian metal guards, to get an idea of the ammount and type of gaps and details i would like to replicate... thank you Luke for the great istructional video btw, was really useful!

odd bubble on a stone block you are going to adhere together, not sure where that becomes a issue after painting, if they are looking that close tell them to build their own,or perfection costs 75% more if you are selling them,either way it doesn't make a huge difference to a real gamer playing a tabletop campaign

Isn't dental plaster much better to use?
@ruthmeow4262
@ruthmeow4262 5 жыл бұрын
It depends on what molds you are using. Resins work very well on very delicate molds. All the castings he showed would be good with plaster, but some of the Hirst molds are very delicate. The Graveyard Mold has a cast iron fence which is nigh impossible to unmold without breaking it in plaster. The Inn Accessories Mold would be another candidate I would use resins for. I use dental plaster for all other castings.
