Easy Peasy, Thanks for sharing. I find at 86 years young and having been sewing since about 6 years old, one can still learn new things and short cuts. Be open minded folks.

Thank you for this lovely clear video. I’m now part way into using lots of my red quilting fabric scraps to make a three tiered skirt. I’m short so I’ve lengthened each block to get the skirt to be ankle length. I love the method for gathering the fabric and inserting the waist elastic.

Fantastic! Isn't it great that since you are sewing rectangles (or squares) you can make it as long or short as you want by adjusting the size of the one piece. So versatile. Thanks for watching!! ~Deborah

A great tutorial video. I will suggest sewing a second row of stitching on your pocket lower edge. This is where a lot of pocket stitching breaks from putting too much in your pocket.

Best place to get fabric cheap is Thrift stores - I frequent my local Salvation Army and Goodwill for fabric - sheets, curtains, etc - anything that is in good condition and 100% cotton, I take it home, wash it and put it in my stash so when I want to make something I just pull from that. A large sheet can give you about 4 yards or so of fabric for a couple bucks.

Hi! I absolutely love this video. I'm not having much luck finding how many squares go in each tier. I've checked the link and the website. Only found the pocket pattern. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
@piecesofthepast
@piecesofthepast 3 ай бұрын
The notes file on the website associated with this video will give you the number of squares that are typically in each tier (See point #2). The pocket pattern is page two of that document. I make mine with 18 squares in the bottom tier because 24 is too many for me. You can adjust as you like. :-) Here is the direct link to the note file for you. I have just made the 3 tier skirt. I really like the simplicity of it but I am a 5ft woman and this is really the first item of clothing I have made. I lack the know how to determine appropriate length=. I found this 3 tier in between for me in terms of too short to be full length and too long to be below knee or mid shin. Any suggestions on what I should cut future squares as? Thank you for this video, it was so helpful and gave me confidence to try!
@piecesofthepast
@piecesofthepast 2 ай бұрын
Congratulations on making your first! To make the 3 tier longer, try adding a set amount of length to your blocks. For example, add an inch of length to your blocks. This will make them rectangles, instead of squares, but just be sure to sew the long sides together to make the tiers and this will make the skirt about 2.5-3" longer for you. You can add or subtract any number you like. Hope that makes sense. So glad you tried it! Thanks for the awesome comment! ~Deborah
@sweetpea5539
@sweetpea5539 Ай бұрын
Sounds like you should lengthen your squares. If three tiers is too short, determine how much longer you would like the skirt. Let’s just say you want a three tiered skirt to be 6” longer without adding a fourth tier. That would mean tiers 1-2-3 need 2 additional inches each. You would make your squares 10”x12” instead.

is there somewhere it says how to divide the squares in the rows?
@piecesofthepast
@piecesofthepast 27 күн бұрын
The video explains how to put the rows together and how many squares/rectangles to put in each row. You can also cruise through the previous comments and replies to get an idea how others are dividing the squares per row for their height requirements. Each row can have as many or as few squares as you would like based on your desired fullness of the skirt for your taste. Thanks for watching! ~Deborah

Hi there, how long roughly is the 4 tier skirt? Or how tall are you for reference? I love a long skirt too but I'm 5'8 :)

My skirts turn out to be around 35." I am also 5'8" tall. You can adjust the length by changing the length of the beginning square/rectangle you start with, or by making the hem larger or smaller. Very versatile! Thanks for watching! ~Deborah
