Just want to say, I can't believe how many people will let a cats eye infection go thinking that it will clear up on its own. I volunteered in a cat shelter for 6 years and there were so many one eyed cats who could have been helped. As a seeing eye girl to a blind cat, thanks for tackling this issue!

I feel like this applies to everything. If you aren't willing to take your pet to the vet everytime they show signs of illness then DON'T GET A PET. I'm in Australia but I'm sure there are similar things everywhere. For $17 per animal per fortnight I get unlimited consultations, routine care and discounts off other vet care. Look after your pets.

My cat recently lost an eye due to our regular vet not knowing what was happening. He said it was a resurgence of his early (pre-adoption) herpes due to the stress of a move to a new house and merging households with my boyfriend. We went every 2-4 days for 2 weeks, and it cleared from its initial state but not to the original. After 4 weeks of constant treatment and reassurance from my usual vet that it was looking better and better, I called a vet to my house to have a second opinion. She immediately referred me to an ophthalmologist who scheduled me for surgery 3 days later to remove the eye and his other eye (which my other vet never even tested) was treated for internal inflammation. No cancer was detected, and they said it was likely an a-determinate immune response and he’ll be on eye drops forever. I’m so sad and guilt ridden because my cat wasn’t showing major signs of pain (neither vet said he seemed in pain, said it seemed like he wasn’t eye-sensitive etc, no obvious behavioral changes), so I followed his advice. I regret it every day even though my kitty is happy and healthy now.

@@empod your lucky. It's cheaper overseas. US will charge you $50-95 just to walk through the door 🤣🙄 bloodwork can be between $50-200 depending on locations. X-rays $65-265. Spays and neuter $10-400 depending on location. I lived in Mississippi for 3 yrs and it only cost me $10 to fix cats. I saved so many strays that way. Moved back to Texas and my old vet I used a decade ago quoted me almost $495 😅🙄🤦🏻‍♀️ I spent $165 on antibiotics for 7 cats last month. Sh** is NOT CHEAP here !!!

One of the cats saved my the rescue I volunteer for, Shamrock, had herpesvirus and almost lost both eyes. She was in foster for months getting serum treatments and managed to keep both eyes! Her eyes are a bit runny, which threw potential adopters off for almost 2 years, but she just found her forever home last week actually

6 years ago I had a litter of 4 and they all had viral infections and ulcers in their eyes. The ophthalmologist asked me to bring one of my healthy adult cats (not the mother) so she could make this plasma and I used it along the other eye medicines. It really made a difference for them. I'm glad that you're spreading the word about this treatment; I didn't know about it before.

When we adopted my cat almost 17 years ago as a kitten, she had an eye infection that, thankfully, was able to be cleared up with an antibiotic ointment. I can still remember that tiny kitten "helping" by rubbing her eyes with her paws after I put in the ointment. Now she's happy, healthy, and just as playful as she was as a kitten. Thanks for all of the hard work you put in with these kittens!

Thank you so much for the work you do Hannah! You helped me get in to fostering, and in the past year and a half I’ve taken in and successfully raised/adopted out 17 neonatal kittens, 2 cats, and a feLV kitten named Leo. I’ve used some of my savings to turn my room into a kitten nursery space, and since I’m still a youth I’ve enlisted the help of my older brother and parents to help me cover overnight feeding shifts. Without the videos, blog posts, and Orphan Kitten Club web info, I definitely wouldn’t be a registered foster parent at my local shelter. You’re a magic woman, Kitten Lady!

By the time I rescued my kitten at 4 mos, one eye had ruptured and was gone. The other eye was enlarged, doesn't resemble an eye but is stable. I took her to a vet immediately. She is now 2.5 yrs old and blind. She is so capable; she runs, climbs, fetches and can do anything a cat can do but see. She is the joy of my life and I would take a blind cat or kitten any day!

I am each time shocked when I see how little cats - just born- recently suffer from such strong diseases
@solar0wind
@solar0wind 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, and if they survive, their immune system will often be damaged. Of 4 shelter cats I had, 3 of them got rare diseases and 2 had to be put to sleep because of them, and the other one had back pain because of it and the new kitten we got always jumped on the hurting spot, until one day the cat couldn't stand it anymore and disappeared without a trace forever :( The new kitten came from private people, who for some reason didn't fix their cats. We got him another kitten when we noticed that the other cat would never come back (we searched everywhere for months), also from a private home. Both were in a warm home in their early kitten days, instead of on the street, and they've never had any severe disease yet. They are older now than any of the cats we had before got. (5 and almost 5) What I learnt from this is that shelter cats are often immunocompromised cats... :|

One of my cats, Bug, had this problem. We ended up having to have his eye removed during his neuter surgery. Recovery was horrible, he had to wear a cone for a while and his eyelids were so swollen from being sewn shut. But, in the end, it was worth it. He went from a very sickly runt of a kitten to a fat cat who lived to be 15.

Best not watch any Vet related kitten videos if that was too much. That wasn't the worst eye infection I've seen at all 😁

Be sure to care for yourself, there's no shame if the footage is too much. Maybe treat future questionable content like a podcast? You'd still get the information, just without the graphic visuals

A terrific video, Ms. KL.....I really learned a lot. We are lucky that in my area, that we have our own dog and cat eye specialist, so we have access to really great treatment.
