For those who thinks about getting a server psu, here are a few questions i had when i first got mine :-) -How loud does it gets? They can get loud but it depends on the load and ambient temp. Its a high pitch whining noice when it runs on full blast. If you have just half load in it, you probably will hear it but i was surprised how silent it was then. But as i got more cards and used more power it got louder. It depends on what you can tolerate. Btw, the fan runs on low speed whenever its connected to power, and turned off. This is normal and will help cool it when you turn off your rig. -How hot does it get? They get hot, i was concerned at first but turns out its just how it is. I can easely meassure about 40*c on top of it when running. When you first start up, it will run silent, but as the temp rises, the fan wil ramp up to full blast until the temp goes down, and then it will gradualy reduce the fan speed. I meassured the temp from the exhaust, and when it reached 44-45*c it went on full speed. I designed and 3d printed a shroud for mine where i have a 80mm fan blowing air directly into the back of the psu to help feed it with air, this reduced the fan noice a bit as it helped with cooling. I was thinking of uploading it to Thingiverse, but havent got around doing it yet. I went straight for the server psu, i have never used one before, but it was really easy and CHEAP! Btw, the display on my breakoutbard shows volt, and not amp/watt.. But that would be awsome if it showed watt! And when it starts up and nothing using any power, it shows 12.1, when its running and the gpu's mining, it will go down to 11.9.. Kind of weird and i dont know if its normal.. Edit: Apparantly its normal. I made a video of my PSU, and different sound levels, also how the fan shroud i made helps to lower the sound of the fan. Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/raazonWaaJVje6c Fan shroud on Thingiverse: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4790083 If im not allowed to post links here, tell me and i will remove it. :-)

They are small jet engines. You will not be able to sleep. Trick is to keep them under ~70% load so they don't kick on the fast rpm mode. So like the 750s you don't want to go above 500w too far. The 1200s run on 110v only do 900w, so don't go above 630w or so. If you run 240v you can run them up to 840w before they take off.

1st thing: Ohms law. Use 220/240(depending where you are) whenever possible. 2nd thing: In older homes with smaller panels, let's say you're running 1 server supply @220 and an atx from an outlet. You should probably be aware that during summer months when electricity use is high and many, many homes have this, you will get line drop on one leg. Now, your server ps? It's on both and the neutral, it cares not! Your atx that you plugged in and maybe power 1 or 2 cards off of? You can see where things could get funky and if you hang a scope on either leg to neutral/gnd or to the chassis of the rig for that matter, you will likely see some wild transient spikes when the AC kicks on with the microwave or something. I think if you CAN, then run the ATX on 220 as well. That way the whole system is balanced, spikes are absorbed much easier and your reference is going to be the same to gnd/neutral, this can save cards and especially motherboards. Plus, all that said, it is ALWAYS better to run higher voltage at lower current than vice versa. I mean, look outside...........Imagine if those lines carried 500v instead of 15k to 500k+? They'd be thick as a tree trunk to bleed of the heat generated! Great video, thanks!!

So I'm building a 12 1660 super rig. Each gpu should pull 78W. and only needs 1 8 pin. Two things the 75w 150w max has two do with two things. Safety factor which is just how much you want to bake into make the product safe from over use or poor manufacturing. But I believe the second part of this has to do with the NEC or IEE standard for plug and arc flash spacing. The more power the greater the risk of arc between two pins creating a short and a fire. This again is sort of a safety thing based on engineering analysis for failures for a component and design. I can get into a deep dive of this later offline in an email.

Hi great video if i want a PSU Server but which break out board do i need for powering motherboard and so on ???
@davevirginia32053 жыл бұрын
Basically, a 6 pin pcie connector has 2 circuits (2x +12v & 2x gnd + 1x sense + 1 noconnect (often connected to +12V). Conservative current rating for pcie style connectors is 3 amps /pin which is a total of 6 amps for 2 circuits. At 12 volts thats 72 watts (for the official rating or 75 watts). An 8 pin pcie has 3x +12V, + 4x gnd + 1 sense= 3 circuits. Pushing the current rating a bit to 4.5 amps yields about 150 watts. If you exceed these numbers, you risk having a poor connection causing a voltage drop which then causes heat at the connector (remember P=I*R and an increase in resistance generates extra heat). Most 6 pin to 8 pin adapters also cheat on the number of wires (running 3 grounds thru one wire) which doesn't help the situation.

Hello Mining chamber. To build a mining rig a ASUS B250 Mining Expert that has 3x 24 pin, I wonder if I can use only 1 server PSU with 3 ATX PSUs that i already have. The ATX PSUs that I have are Corsair 1000W 80+ Platinum. But I want to build a 19 GPUs rig with 9un RTX 3060TI and 10un RX 6800. To power them up, as you said that we should only use 80% of the PSU power, the 3 ATX PSU wont have enough power. So, can I use only one server psu to power up some of those GPUs? How should I do it? I mean, for example, I could power only 4 gpus per ATX psus and then, with the last one, plug in the 4 pin molex cable to the server psu and then plug in the other 7 gpus to the server psu? Or is there a better way to power them all up?

well you did talk about everything, but what about plugging it in the wall what do i need for that? i like in the UAE so our wall plugs are like the UK.

Can I use low power 200w for motherboard and 1000w server with shorted pin for auto start if I connect them on 240v splitter cable... that way the moment it's in the wall both will start? Since MB has auto start after power loss function... and HP server has simple breakout where start pins are shorted with plug. ?

Thanks for the video, I have a problem I have a btc-t37 connected with an atx-850 coolermaster with 24pin connector working without problems, I bought a psu dps-1200sb and connected it with a molex cable to the 4 pin break-board, the problem is that when the motherboard starts the psu (1200) starts with a delay of half a second with this my video cards are not recognized, how can I change the connections so that this doesn't happen?

Where do you get the 6 pin to 8 pin pcie connector cables to use on the breaker board to the GPU?

Amazing video as always! I had one question, can i use two separate 6 pin to 8pin wires to power mu dual 8pin gpu? Or do i have to use the splitter for it? Replies are really appreciated :) Love your work mining chamber! Keep up ❤️

Power a single GPU and corresponding riser from the same PSU, don't use more than one splitter per cable (Don't split a splitter), and never use sata to power riser (even if you're using sata to Molex adapter). Also good practice to avoid using Molex to power riser IF you can (but that's not always possible). So to answer your question, using two separate 6 pins is okay as long as they aren't from different PSUs.

@@typodapsycho1734 can you give me an explanation why my 6 pin to 6+2 connected to ide/sata on psu cannot power my riser ? (Pc won't boot)

Is the single Strand of cable from the breakout board capable of powering a 5700xt card

Is it possible to use 1x ATX + 2x Server PSU on the same rig ? Or only 2 PSUs are recommended max ?

Yes, you can mix as many as you want!

What’s the difference between the breakout board that have a molex in the middle and those that don’t? Kinda confused whether it is required to use it or if I can leave it empty
