For those who thinks about getting a server psu, here are a few questions i had when i first got mine :-) -How loud does it gets? They can get loud but it depends on the load and ambient temp. Its a high pitch whining noice when it runs on full blast. If you have just half load in it, you probably will hear it but i was surprised how silent it was then. But as i got more cards and used more power it got louder. It depends on what you can tolerate. Btw, the fan runs on low speed whenever its connected to power, and turned off. This is normal and will help cool it when you turn off your rig. -How hot does it get? They get hot, i was concerned at first but turns out its just how it is. I can easely meassure about 40*c on top of it when running. When you first start up, it will run silent, but as the temp rises, the fan wil ramp up to full blast until the temp goes down, and then it will gradualy reduce the fan speed. I meassured the temp from the exhaust, and when it reached 44-45*c it went on full speed. I designed and 3d printed a shroud for mine where i have a 80mm fan blowing air directly into the back of the psu to help feed it with air, this reduced the fan noice a bit as it helped with cooling. I was thinking of uploading it to Thingiverse, but havent got around doing it yet. I went straight for the server psu, i have never used one before, but it was really easy and CHEAP! Btw, the display on my breakoutbard shows volt, and not amp/watt.. But that would be awsome if it showed watt! And when it starts up and nothing using any power, it shows 12.1, when its running and the gpu's mining, it will go down to 11.9.. Kind of weird and i dont know if its normal.. Edit: Apparantly its normal. I made a video of my PSU, and different sound levels, also how the fan shroud i made helps to lower the sound of the fan. Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/raazonWaaJVje6c Fan shroud on Thingiverse: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4790083 If im not allowed to post links here, tell me and i will remove it. :-)

They are small jet engines. You will not be able to sleep. Trick is to keep them under ~70% load so they don't kick on the fast rpm mode. So like the 750s you don't want to go above 500w too far. The 1200s run on 110v only do 900w, so don't go above 630w or so. If you run 240v you can run them up to 840w before they take off.

It is only able to power two RX 580s (can't power 3). It can't power a single RX 5700 XT. Wall voltage is 120V, most likely 15A (so it should be outputing at least around 900W). 1st thing: Ohms law. Use 220/240(depending where you are) whenever possible. 2nd thing: In older homes with smaller panels, let's say you're running 1 server supply @220 and an atx from an outlet. You should probably be aware that during summer months when electricity use is high and many, many homes have this, you will get line drop on one leg. Now, your server ps? It's on both and the neutral, it cares not! Your atx that you plugged in and maybe power 1 or 2 cards off of? You can see where things could get funky and if you hang a scope on either leg to neutral/gnd or to the chassis of the rig for that matter, you will likely see some wild transient spikes when the AC kicks on with the microwave or something. I think if you CAN, then run the ATX on 220 as well. That way the whole system is balanced, spikes are absorbed much easier and your reference is going to be the same to gnd/neutral, this can save cards and especially motherboards. Plus, all that said, it is ALWAYS better to run higher voltage at lower current than vice versa. I mean, look outside...........Imagine if those lines carried 500v instead of 15k to 500k+? They'd be thick as a tree trunk to bleed of the heat generated! Great video, thanks!!

Two things the 75w 150w max has two do with two things. Safety factor which is just how much you want to bake into make the product safe from over use or poor manufacturing. But I believe the second part of this has to do with the NEC or IEE standard for plug and arc flash spacing. The more power the greater the risk of arc between two pins creating a short and a fire. This again is sort of a safety thing based on engineering analysis for failures for a component and design. I can get into a deep dive of this later offline in an email.

EVGA released the 3060Ti XC, which is a single 8pin powered card they rate at 200W... and that limit is probably just for thermal/noise reasons and not power safety reasons xD So 200w+ on a single 8pin pcie is MORE than safe, otherwise major brand wouldn't release such cards

Basically, a 6 pin pcie connector has 2 circuits (2x +12v & 2x gnd + 1x sense + 1 noconnect (often connected to +12V). Conservative current rating for pcie style connectors is 3 amps /pin which is a total of 6 amps for 2 circuits. At 12 volts thats 72 watts (for the official rating or 75 watts). An 8 pin pcie has 3x +12V, + 4x gnd + 1 sense= 3 circuits. Pushing the current rating a bit to 4.5 amps yields about 150 watts. If you exceed these numbers, you risk having a poor connection causing a voltage drop which then causes heat at the connector (remember P=I*R and an increase in resistance generates extra heat). Most 6 pin to 8 pin adapters also cheat on the number of wires (running 3 grounds thru one wire) which doesn't help the situation.

Power a single GPU and corresponding riser from the same PSU, don't use more than one splitter per cable (Don't split a splitter), and never use sata to power riser (even if you're using sata to Molex adapter). Also good practice to avoid using Molex to power riser IF you can (but that's not always possible). So to answer your question, using two separate 6 pins is okay as long as they aren't from different PSUs.

I tried using my Thermaltake Smart RGB 6pin>sata strand on the server PSU and it didn't do anything, im wondering if this is at all possible to achieve or is it only atx molex cables that work with server breakout boards?

That breakout board you showed us doesn't seem to have any slot for powering the mobo no?

Great video man, im havin some issues to make a server psu work. can I use 2x 6 pin to power a GPU or I must have a splitter so I can use only 1x 6pin?

I have cooler master v1000 , pcie cables are from 6 pin to 6+2 pin .. the PSU side connection is of 6 pin rather than 8 pin .. so how much load can 1 cable handle ?

How do you think the EIP-1559 will affect mining eth? Will it be still profitable to mine ethereum after they implement it ?
@MiningChamber4 жыл бұрын
It won't be as profitable at all for sure, it might be a big hit to miners but I do think it won't be implemented any time soon
@petarmilojkovic33314 жыл бұрын
@@MiningChamber it would kinda suck if they implement it we already have to face that PoW will be shut down in like 2 years.And what do you think about that? Like will there be some other coins to mine? Im looking to mine long-term, it would be stupid to buy equipment just to mine for 2 years..

I don't know personally. It's hard to read the future but generally id just say get NVIDIA gpus more than AMD since they are more diverse. You never know what will happen

So the 6-pin board can deliver 216W / cable, that's only 173W with the 80% rule. Now if you run a 250W card which draws typically 50W through the PCIe and 200W through the 2x8pins, means it is better to have 2 cables for the card instead of an Y-splitter, right?

Hi, I was sold one of these HPE supplies under the pretense that it worked with a normal PC. Is there a way that I can adapt it to a normal consumer motherboard?

Quick question: ATX PSU + Server PSU with Server PSU connected GPU not recognized I can confirm when all GPUs connected to the regular ATX PSU, it's working fine. After adding the Server PSU, switched 1 GPU over. Then GPU is not recognized by the Hive OS. Using the commended setting, I connected the riser card and gpu using 2 6-pin power, also using ATX PSU molex 4 pin connected to the server PSU. Any suggestion that why GPU using server PSU is not been recognized?
@MiningChamber4 жыл бұрын
Hmm weird, did you make sure server psu is turning on through the 4 pins on it? Are you powering the gpu and the riser from the same psu?
@treecats4 жыл бұрын
@@MiningChamber Yes, I can used power switch turn on/off both ATX and Server PSU at the same, and yes, both riser and gpu are connected to the breakout board. After boot into HiveOS, it can not see the 2nd card. I found your discord group, joined it and posting question there! Thanks!

Where do you get the 6 pin to 8 pin pcie connector cables to use on the breaker board to the GPU?

is this guide the same for 3090 gpus? I mean i bought a 3090 gpu and a server psu with 16awg cables and im planning to follow this guide
