Using Small Lures To Catch Fish in the Willamette River

One of the best times fishing I ever had was with an ultralight fly rod walking up a TINY creek and catching probably 100+ cutthroat trout ranging from a few inches to maybe 6". It was just hilarious fun.

@@MrAcuta73 I have not done it in quite a while but I used to love to fish Gales creek for small cutthroat trout. A 12" was a giant but a ton of fun on a 4wt fly rod. I imagine a 2wt would be a real blast.

PK, I moved from Corvallis a year ago and I used to fish in the same park all the time. There are some caches of decently sized bass along the main river throughout the park. Miss it!

I live in Corvallis also. Always fun when my 9year old is catching faster than I can get my line in the water. I swear he catches 2x my fish count. so rad as a dad. love it. so fun being a dad in corvallis. Ah Kevins setup w/ the Nasci is primo. nice.

PK, I live not to far from there and i go there easy more than 30 times a year and I can reassure you you can cross that river and section no problem. I have a 40lbs trolling motor and I anchor fish and troll for salmon year round all along the Willamette River down to the mouth and never once I was uncomfortable. You have a much better kayak than me so you do not need to worry. And my 10 y/o daughter paddle board there year round as well all over that area.

PK , my son and I are bringing our kayaks over from Middleton Id from the 2nd of Sept to the 15th , we’ll be staying at sunset bay but we would like to meet you at Depoe Bay for a morning of fishing during our stay at the coast . Last year we went in July and the weather wasn’t kind hoping this year is better! Just did miss your first outing last year ! Tight lines ! Jim

Small mouth/ Look at the mouth if it extends past the eye when closed it's a large mouth.

The largest small mouth I’ve caught in the Willamette was 22 in 5 lbs. a lot of 2-3 pounds
