Using Sonobuoys and Dipping Sonar - a DCS ASW Tutorial for the MH-60R Mod

This is a pretty in depth tutorial and play-through of the Overcast Kilo Hunt mission that comes with the MH-60R mod. After watching this you should have an understanding of how to use sonobuoys, how to pick sonobuoy depths, what the layer depth is and how to find it, how to use the dipping sonar, and how to drop torpedoes on enemy submarines.

The simulation possibilities are truly endless with DCS. Having said that, ED really needs to massively import / directly work with more 3rd party developers to bring DCS into its full potential.

This is so cool - any plans to have the sonogram station functioning? It would be cool to have a multicrew conducting ASW and having to read the screens - just like Dangerous Waters :)

I certainly wish for something that awesome but I think it may be a little too complex for the creator without the use of the SDK. DW level of detail would be amazing.

that would be a perfect project (even if it a Mod), to mix DW Mechanics with DCS Graphics..imagine adding an FFG7 (multicrew) + MH-60R (multicrew) + Kilo (multicrew) in CA module for a start, I expect a HUGE community.

I’d love a multicrew OHP. My buddies and I served on one so it would be awesome running the bridge, combat, and sonar with 3 different people.

Good video. Using the HMD helps and Active Pause really helps when using the sonar. Believe there's also target lock.

There was a target lock but now it’s not needed in the latest version which is great. I find the asw to go slow enough that I don’t need to pause but that may be a byproduct of my real sonar time.

Haha yes I love the MH-60R mod. Flying Navy helicopters is something I have always wanted to do in DCS so I enjoy it thoroughly. I did upgrade my system and was doing a couple Hip sorties on ECW but unfortunately there is some DCS bug which doesn’t allow you to view tracks from multiplayer sessions. Because of this I cannot make one of those documentaries until it is resolved. I will keep checking my trackfiles to see if I can luckily open one but for now it’s been 100% failure.

@@WarReppe yeah it’s pretty crazy it does that sometimes but the good thing is I found a few tracks from last night that seem to work! I’m working on a hip multicrew video right now and the next one will be a documentary style one from the same evening on ECW.
