Thank You for this video. I work with prores raw for a couple of months with SDR library inside FCPX. Is it really necessary to set Wide gammut HDR? What if I mix prores raw with slog3 clips and scinetone in one timeline? HDR is a problem causing some mess with colour grading isn’t it? I though the better solution is to to set raw to log conversion in dedicated tab inside fcpx...

I just got my Ninja V for my a7SIII and I encountered a little issue. When sending RAW from the alpha - I'm getting a full screen image on the Ninja. But if I'm not using RAW output - the picture on the Ninja is way smaller. Is there a way to get full screen without RAW output?

Thank you for this video. I have been recording in HLG3 on the Sony A7siii for underwater filming. A key reason for this is that HLG 3 has great dual iso ranges (second starting at 2000 iso) on the sony, amd high dynamic range. I just added an Atomos V+ display and would like to get the same performance performance but I don't know what I am getting with the Atomos in terms of ISO ranges and noise.Sony's Slog3 has a wide gap in iso where it is noisy so I was avoiding using it and ouputing Slog 3 to the ninja v+ to record in ProRes RAW. Instead I chose Apple Pro Res HQ and stated that the input was HLG, BT.2020 with HDR Auto on. I set the Sony output to 4k 10 bit 60fps. When I did this all my movie setting on the Sony seem to have been disabled. I don't really know what I have now on the Ninja which is set up to record. I don't know the ISO ranges that work to avoid noise. Can you explain? I am concerned about going raw off the Sony due to the noise. HLG 3 format was amazing. Am I getting the HLG3 picture profile and ISO ranges recorded on the Ninja ( can't tell from the sony). If not, is there a way to display the full view picture on the Atomos for now and record on the Sony using its HLG 3 format and have the Sony display settings show up on the Sony? I am sure I am missing something fundamental here but this is the first time using an Atomos device. thank you

I would still love it if Atomos could fix their Zebras. They don't work when shooting PQ as the upper limit is 105%. Also when shooting R709 a zebra should show at the set point AND ABOVE that set point. For some reason, my Ninja V will not show zebras on anything over 105% when it's clearly gone (clipped). Replicate how Zebra's work on the Panasonic (GH5/GH5s/S1H) as they're the most accurate Zebras I've used.

No, you need to enable raw output when recording ProresRAW. Standard Prores doesn't, and won't accept raw output from the camera.

@@eliasjessop1883 this is the way it works with all cameras - they are limited to what the camera can do and what the recorder can do - my Ninja V I can’t (because of a limit with the Ninja V up to 60P) but I can with my Ninja V+ (as I can support the cameras higher frame rates).

ProRes Raw and DNx are free, you just have to register your product and activate it, you have to buy OS11 or H.265 HEVC. OS11 includes H.265 HEVC

Sounds like either a too slow hdmi cable or too slow ssd drive. I can recommend the smallrig ultra thin hdmi cables (SR-2957) they work with 4k60 raw fx3.

I would like to apologise up front, as I am very new to all of this! I purchased a Sony A7S iii and spent the last year getting used to using it for Photography and Videography, and I am doing ok, but I am using S-Cinetone as I am not brave enough or experienced enough yet (time permitting) to approach SLOG3 etc quite yet. My question is simple. I have all of my settings setup to output S-Cinetone and I like it as it is simple, and I have great footage now etc etc. I have literally just took receipt of the Ninja V and your video was excellent and has really helped me. This may be an obvious question, but I am fully aware what you setup on the Camera, is what gets recorded onto the Ninja V, and I want to keep S-Cinetone as my output, so watching your Video you talk about using ProRes HQ as the Codec, is this all I need to do for S-Cinetone to be output from the Sony A7S iii to the Ninja V to be recorded onto the SSD? I want things simple, I want the Ninja mainly to monitor on a brilliant bright screen to get Exposure right (and will be doing lots of reading about how to use the Ninja for that), but am I correct in my above statement? I want to leave the Camera alone and not venture into the dark arts of SLOG due to being a complete novice really. Any advice would be really seriously appreciated to get me going on this exciting device. Thanks again for your brilliant video !

@@Tripped23 that might be your hdmi cord. Try a better one usually the gold plated 4K work best. In my case I just reset my ninja v. But for you, you maybe have to use a new hdmi cord. If not go into the camera settings, under camera output select the raw and then underneath you can select the frame rate of 24 or 60. Let me know if one of these work for you

The atomos seems to faithfully report what is coming out of the camera. On the A7s3, I can force UHD 30 on the A7Siii by the output HDMI settings, but I'm stuck with 60fps or 50fps for FullHD. On Pansonic S series and the Canon R5, they will transmist 30fps over HDMI, and the Atomos dutifully captures it. I submitted a formal bug report to Sony, got acknowledgement and have waited over a year for a fix.

If you want to buy a HDMI cable to output RAW, the cable must be capable of supporting 8k/4k ultra Highspeed, rated for around 48 Gbps ;) the statement "very high quality" is very unspecific because also also a 1080p cable can be very high quality and does not support the feature.

@@AtomosChannel Oh okay thanks a lot for the information. I tried a 4k cable for 30€ which I consider high quantity and it did not work. And various cables rated for Ultra 4k/8k did work so I assumed that is has to do with the transmission data rate. Also, I think, an important factor is length of the cable since, in shorter once, you get much cleaner signals. Above 2m the signal often gets noisy and produces errors.

You will not be able to record 4k 120p or 8k 30p on your Sony A7S3 or Sony FX3 as these cameras can only output 4k 60p externaly. Thank you for NOT communicating this TINY detail Atomos.

This Pertains to Both The Sony FX3 and FX30. So both camera's are great i mostly use the Sony Fx30 and it does a great job, they are a couple things about it that i notice and i'm asking any one who owns the Sony Fx30 to help me here so we can get Sony to fix a couple of things about this camera that includes the Fx3 as well. If we as customers and Sony Fx30 owners want something change calling Sony and requesting it does very little. We need to bind together, because numbers motivates Sony then they are more likely to listen. So if you would like to see these changes too follow me and maybe we can get it done. the 2 things i would like to see changed and they can both be done in Firmware update. #1 As of now you can only record 4k 120P internally using an expensive SD or CFexpress type A card. Not all of us record internally and for many reasons, I myself Record to an External Recorder, (Ninja V+) So the problem is you can't take advantage of 4K 120P recording externally, it will not let you do it. How ever the Ninja V+ is capable of doing it i do it with my Fujifilm XT-4 Camera all the time. for some reson Sony Will not allow you to record via HDMI to the Ninja V+ 4k 120P. Why i ask? this is really silly because both the camera and the NInja V+ is very well capable of it. The only thing i can come up with for a reason why is Sony wants to promote the sales of expensive SD and CFexpress type A cards, that would be the only thing i can think of. Never the less we need to bug sony to come up with a Firmware update to change this. And it can very well be done, they can do a simple firmware update and fix this problem, wouldn't you all like to record 4K 120P to the Ninja V+ or an External Recorder that can handle it? Of course you would.. So we need to bind together and give them a little push to make this happen. The Other issue is that you can not record Slog, to an external recorder unless you have the DHMI output set to Off (HDMI Only) this is really silly. didn't you notice if you set the HDMI output set to On, you are limited to what you can record to the external recorder (Ninja V+) you have to turn HDMI output to off if you want to record 4k to the external recorder. this is the other thing we need Sony to fix in a firmware update as well.. So people let me hear your thoughts on this, i'm sure you would like to see these changes made and so would I. Cheers..
