In this video, we’re going to talk about how to use the bevel modifier in Blender to round off your edges in your models! This can be key for making your models more realistic, as a slight bevel makes things look less “fake” in a 3D sense.

• Using the ARRAY MODIFI...
Let’s start by taking a look at some of the functions contained inside the bevel tool using the most simple example - a cube.
When we apply the bevel modifier to the cube, the first thing you’ll notice is that it applies to all the edges and vertices in the object. You can’t really use it to bevel individual edges.
At its base level, the bevel modifier will take all the edges in the object and bevel them off. See how you get flat faces on all the vertices and the corners?
Now, let’s look at some of the ways we can modify the bevel.
Offset - controls the width of the bevel, or how far the bevel goes
Note there are options for beveling based on offset length, object width, percent, and more.
Check only vertices to only bevel corners
Segments - controls the number of segments created - more = more curved, less = less curved
Profile sets if your bevels go in or out
Material allows you to apply a different material to your bevels than your base faces
Now let’s look at some other situations/examples
Notice that if you apply a bevel modifier to a shape like our two boxes here, it bevels both the outer and inner edges - good for creating transitions.
Clamp overlap will keep your faces from overlapping - if you don’t do this, it can get messy.
If we bevel this extruded circle, notice that it’s also beveling the intersecting edges in the middle and creating a lot of extra geometry? You can limit this by changing your limit method to “angle.” This will set it so only edges over a certain angle will be beveled, letting you control how things are beveled.
That’s a general overview of the way the bevel modifier works. Now, let’s discuss a bit about some of the reasons you’d use a modifier instead of the actual bevel tool.
Actual tool - creates the actual geometry in your model. Highly helpful for when you need to use the bevel tool to add loop cuts. The modifier, on the other hand, doesn’t add geometry. If you select the object and hit the tab key, you can see the original geometry.
Modifier - keeps things simple. You can go back and edit your original geometry and your beveled shape will adjust along with it.

Hi everyone! Let me know if you have any questions about the bevel modifier in Fusion 360 in the comments below! :)

In addition to "Limit by Vertex Group", you can "Limit by Weight" and control that with the "Item" tab in the [N] panel when you're in Edit mode, it's the Mean Bevel Weight in the Edges Data section. And if you combine the Limit by Weight and the Percentage offset, you can control how deep the bevel actually is.

I'm here for literally 42 seconds, but I want to pause here and tell you how great it is for beginners that you have a cursor spotlight and clearly go through every single step.

Just a heads up, as Neil mentioned, you can target specific edges by using vertex groups in the bevel modifier. Cheers.

Thanks for all the tutorials, man. I also follow you for Fusion 360. I'm having trouble making a bevel for an "L" shape wall, tried with both methods with no luck... Any advise?

I made a curvy shape using the subdivision and solidifier mod, I just want to add some bevel to the edges though - How come when I add the bevel modifier nothing happens just a frozen blender screen. WHAT AM I DOING WRONGGG?!?!? thanks for any help :)

9:58 To apply to only a few edges you use Limit Method -> Vertex Group.... Obviously this means setting up a vertex group. Obviously #2 this means you can set up lots of vertex group / Bevel modifier combos in one mesh to have various size / styles of bevel.... Even your dog had this one worked out :D

perhaps you've made a video about this since, given Im looking at a 4 year old video but how (and why) does scaling effect the bevel modifier. Bevel works great on a standard cube or form of a certain size, but if you are modelling a form thats relatively small (i.e. a hand prop) and your object has the correct scale applied, the bevel modifier has little to no effect on the object. What Ive had to do is scale my object up by a measure of "10", apply scale, then add the modifier to get the desired effect. Then shrink the object by "0.1" but not apply scale. Any work around for this? Cheers. Great channel by the way

How can one get to the "virtual vertices" that result from a boolean combination, in order to bevel by weight with it ? I want to take those boolean-created vertices and use the Vertex Weight Proximity mod with them, to get non-destructive, controlled bevels. Ex. imagine getting the vertices of a boolean cut object, proximate to the cutting object, then bevelling just those edges a certain way.

the bug come from the groups? it seem to bug , assign edges that i never sel, remove works , but still re add the unwanted edge even if i remove it also with the -, the f..edge still remain...dont know how to report this bug?...finally, after finishing i think that vertex group wld be the so great solution for modeling, but well...add 3 layers of bevels or just modifiy and add your bevels and everything will splash...so i lltry with weigh, maybe its a better way...

Yes. Assign it to a vector group and limit by vector group in the modifier.

why would anyone hate blender? i mean it's free open source, if you're new to blender it's gonna take time to learn blender, if you think blender 2.90 or 2.93 are hard you should try blender 2.4 , 2.5 2.79, lmao

i really think you should re-do this video. Vertex grouping is crucial to the practical use of the bevel modifier. It's silly for you to make a video like this for beginners without understanding of that concept.
