Using the Boss IR-2 as a preamp pedal

Man, i cant wait to get this pedal. A lot of possibilities. I can't decided which way i want to use it now. Incidentally, i love that Feedbacker pedal. It's badass. I had to put it lower on the list because of scarcity and i don't really have a use for it other than feedbacking like a champ on demand. Great series you have done on this pedal and very helpful. First, I’ve always wanted a feedbacker. So badass and expensive lol. Second, right there with you. It’s in the mail and I can’t decide if I’m going to run my entire board into it and then turn off cabs so it can go straight into my amp and add a second distortion channel basically, or if I’m going to use the effects loop to run the time based effects into the entire thing. Idk man all I know is I haven’t been this excited in years

You are the first one to mention that the cab sims could be turned off. My main amp is a Peavey stereo tube amp 50/50. This pedal could be useful in this fashion. Thanks for the info.

Yeah! Turn the cabs off! Use the pre amps in the IR-2, plug it into the return of your effect loop, and you have 10 Brand-new Anp preamps to choose from!

Yep! The stock sounds are absolutely amazing! When I’m finished making videos for this pedal, I will do a factory reset and go back to using it the way it came out of the box! I really love the sounds!

I love the idea of this pedal I just wish you could split the outputs with the IR, send just the preamp to my amp return and preamp + IR to FOH. haven't seen anywhere that it's possible.

Yep. You can’t do that unfortunately! You can set the pedal up to just be a preamp and bypass the ir section… then run 1 side to your amp… and the other side to a stand alone or loader? There are some really cheap IR loaders out there on the market! That might help?

What’s the best way to run the pedal I have it but not used it yet is there eney settings I need to change before useing I’m just gonna have it hooked up before or after my pedal board I don’t have room to mount it on my board

That's HOW it's meant to be used! HOWEVER that DF2 sounded like my ARSE after I've eaten too much cereal! Seriously BASSY too! Sounded a bit flubby thru my speakers.

Running a boss ir2 in front of a katana is like serving pasta before your main meal of ….pasta..

Yeah! Joel is absolutely right… you can do it directly on the pedal, you need to put the knobs in a certain position and then power the pedal back up! There’s a bit of a process to it, and it’s hard to remember! Ha ha ha ha

That's the OLDEST DF-2 isn't it? Because my 90s DF-2 named SUPER Feedbacker & Distortion, not Super Distortion and Feedbacker😅 ... I wonder if they changed that because of Dimarzio?🤔🤭

I thought I read that the preamp models in the pedal are amp models used in the Katana; if so, it’s kind of funny that you are bypassing the Katana models to demonstrate the same models…

Nah they're from the IR200. Katana also just got re-done recently, probably because the IR series sounds so much better
