Great video. I think for the first time I really understand how quilts work. I think I could be tempted by the 350 as I seem to get colder these days. Loving the scenic location and adding in a few timelapses. Gives it that something extra.

Thanks Kev. I didn't really get it before I bought this quilt either. I ignorantly thought that people were just trying to be quirky and different. I now know that the weight savings can be significant, as can the pack size, and being able to walk around at night with a blanket draped over you is genuinely useful!

That's a good idea. I think I need to follow up all my bits of kit with 1 year reviews really! I haven't done anywhere near as much camping this summer as I intended to, so I've only used the quilt a couple of times this year. It is perfect when I want to keep weight and volume to a minimum though, and when the temperatures are high enough 👌

From the Cumulus site says that the 250 has the comfort Temperatur 4 Celsius. Did you feel a bit cold about 10 Celsius? And you sleep with some warm clothes and did feel a bit cold about 10 Celsius? It is correct. Because i wan to buy it and i d like understand how warm it is. Thank you.

Hello Joe. In the video I said that the weather forecast predicted 15°C, but also there was quite a strong wind that was blowing into the tent. I also explained that I didn't have any very warm clothes with me, just a thin thermal base layer. I tend to sleep quite cool compared to other people, but for me, in this video, I stated that I think 10°C would be about the coldest temperature I would use the quilt in. For other people they might still be fine at the claimed 4°C comfort limit. It is different for everyone 😊

With regards to the quilt and straps, I'd look out for adjusting the attachment points so the quilt is entirely on TOP of the pad and that no part of the quilt is trapped between the pad bottom and the tent floor. Abrasion can easily rip the quilt material.
@joinmeoutdoors
@joinmeoutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
That's a good tip, thank you. I did think that, in colder weather, I could bring the attachment points in towards the middle of the mat on top so that the quilt wrapped around me a bit more. It does feel like I'll need to be quite careful with the material as it feels much thinner than my sleeping bags.
@praktika1082
@praktika1082 2 жыл бұрын
@@joinmeoutdoors yup that's where some of the weight savings come from ... The use of relatively fragile material. I learned this point the hard way when I ripped a quilt near one of its attachment points. Now those clips are very much on top of the pad (still close to the sides, but on top).
@joinmeoutdoors
@joinmeoutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
@@praktika1082 Sorry to hear that! Was it a Cumulus quilt? I was tempted to specify one of the heavier duty materials when I was ordering, but decided to keep the standard specification. I'll be sure to bring those clips in slightly on my next camp.

Great video, and like the fact that you gave a nod to viewer who corrected the strap set up..Great to see someone open to getting the information out without being too "precious" about making an error..which we all make from time to time..Respect to you for that! I'm really interested in getting a quilt, as feel really claustrophobic in a sleeping bag. There doesnt seem to be much in the way of choice or variety here in the uk. Seems to be either "ice flame" from ali express, which with tax (and chance of customs tax); can easily become a £165 quilt..There's the one tigres quilt, which is around £70, but seems more like a picnic blanket..or the custom bags from America. Then your talking serious cash, plus import tax. So the Cumulus Quilt looks a serious contender. However, like your self I'm a little unsure between the 250 and the 350!?!? Have seen the 250 for £185 (not a million miles away from ice flame money). Not seen any info on the 350, cost or weight wise. Could you please elaborate on your thought process, to aid my own decision making on this subject. Thanks for the great content!
@joinmeoutdoors

Thanks a lot, Tim. I've already made a few errors, and it's only right that people point them out. I can't exactly hide from my mistakes when they're captured in 4K 😂 We can only learn!, 👍 You've certainly been weighing up all your options, which is absolutely the right way to go about it. If I could make my choice again, I think I'd buy the Cumulus Quilt 350 rather than the 250. All of the info is on the Cumulus website. The 350 is 110 grams heavier than the 250, but will be warmer, and I think the down will fill the quilt a bit better as there will be more of it than there is in the 250.
@timporter8886

@@joinmeoutdoors Haha..I did laugh at your point about mistakes captured in 4k..haha..but, I still have respect for your integrity; which is a rare thing these days. So bravo for that! Thanks so much for taking the trouble to reply. Some folk on You tube never get back to questions asked. Which is fine, as is the unsubscribe button 🤣. So again, respect to you for that. To be honest, and after reading other comments on this post; particularly a chap that had had a bad experience with Cumulus Company; after the down in his quilt had.."shifted"..I'd more or less come to the same conclusion. Your advice is much appreciated, and has only reinforced that conclusion. Great minds think a like..haha. Perhaps you should ask Cumulus for a 350 to review on your channel? Lots of folk get freebies, and they can only say no!?!? You clearly are a genuine guy and if you're concerned about the integrity of your channel; I personally think that an honest review doesnt come across as pandering to the "sponsor" pros AND CONS, clearly demonstrating integrity. Anyway, just a thought. Take care and please keep your excellent posts coming. 👍

I prefer to ditch the straps as it’s just as uncomfortable as a sleeping bag. Just get a double size down quilt and an exped megamat duo 15LXM along with a regular pillow and it’s heaven as you can move all night without getting cold and it’s like a bed at home.
