The 49 chevy has had some poor repairs done where the factory quarters were joined. Using the simple cut and butt to repair these areas with the greatest of ease.

You could do "Cut & Butt" video's everyday on your channel and I would watch every last one.... There is just something about Common Sense welding that grabs my attention.... And I want to thank you Fitzee for sharing these techniques with us younger gents (& I'm sure ladies), Your teaching should be paid for and for it to be free, I appreciate it.... Bless you and our based Canadian neighbors!!

Always enjoy your videos. There's always something to learn. Just the fact that someone is wearing glasses provides "some" protection from UV Ray. Glasses, whether glass or plastic cut UV Rays. I also noted, in your video, when you are welding you don't see the blue flash in your face. Proves your technique is good and works !! Thanks for all the videos. Best Regards - Mike

Thankyou, I really appreciate your show! I'm a metal man as well, and I enjoy the cars you have been working on, I have been getting lots of tips from you on building complex shapes, and little things like the angle of the cut, I did cut and butt be fore but now the pieces of metal will fit even better. Very much appreciate the videos on the quarter panel from flat material, and just taking it in sections makes it so much more manageable. Great show! From Wichita Ks

Never seen your channel before. Thought I'd pass a pro tip to your readers, as you were saying the metal was ground to much. Tip on dent repair, do your grinding before you straighten the dent while the surfaces are smoother, this will eliminate grinding too much metal off the high spots after you straighten.

Hey fitze. Awesome job as usual. I have been doing insurance collision work for forty one years now so used to thin metal that’s zinc coated hence very thin, susceptible to massive warping and zinc coated conducive to blowing holes in your weld area. What works better than straight oxygen is 75%oxygen 25%argon A lot less spattering and blowing holes especially in thinner metals. Just a thought, you probably know this already though. As well I never knew about these glasses either 👍

You're styling with those fancy welding glasses! What does Wendy think? I'm with you on the difficulty of seeing those seams through a helmet. I use a bright magnetic light adjacent to the seam so I can see the darn thing. That works good for me but everyone is different. Great video as always Fitzee. Thanks for taking the time to video and share.
@cdbeshore
@cdbeshore Жыл бұрын
This tip about having a strong magnetic light is something I discovered that helped. I also don't keep a glove on one hand so I can more easily run my finger across the weld. When I started, one of the hardest things to figure out was seeing the weld and knowing where you were welding. I still mess up but have gotten much better with practice.

Hi Tony. The tips are good. Interesting discussion about angling the torch tip to hide the arc. I have accidentally struck an arc without my hood down and it was an unpleasant experience. I learned a ton from you fitzee! I just tried to do a long curved wheel arch. I cut the piece of metal to a curve i templated.. Problem was i cut it flat but when i curved the metal into a wheel arch, it changed my outer crown curve. I had the whole thing welded solid before i found it was off. I had to cut half of it and reset the piece. Luckily i left it just wide enough for room to adjust it.

Did you ever think of putting a small flash guard on the copper gas shield of the mig welder? If not, just make something up yourself. Whenever I weld without my helmet, I get a skin burn on my face, and about 3-4 days later, I peel. What I find if I use suntan lotion it protects my face from getting burned. The other option is if it's hard to see with the helmet on, I put led lights on my welding helmet focused on what I'm welding, so it makes it brighter before the arc. I think it's an age thing because I'm in my late 60s and everything is harder to see even with glasses. The fenders came out really nice. I can't wait to get back on my fenders now that my garage is getting warmer.

3:31 I made a tool like that many years ago. It’s a 3/4” round that actually has a slight crown to it at this point though it didn’t start out that way. I guess I didn’t realize it was a “real tool.” It just was needed for pounding ribs/beads into a jeep rear floor repair but it’s proved quite useful. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised other people arrived at the same conclusion.

There are plenty of us body workers that use the gas nozzle to shield the spark from view. You can't bead on body steel, only spot. Huge advantage in speed because once you've aimed the gun all you need to do is shut your eyes and squeeze the trigger. You can hear exactly what is happening with the weld and at the same time be thinking of the next spot. Helmets in tight spaces are no fun either.
