Words of wisdom from a viewer like me that cares a whole shitload about audio in all your video workflows people. Thank you anton Duncan. Thanks for making the video but I have to disagree on at least 2 levels. I don't usually comment negatively on videos but I fear that if someone sees this, they might disregard the xt2 and buy a 80d... 1. The video quality of the xt2 is better than the 80d. Period. If we were talking about Sony, you could debate that the color science is better on Canon but this is Fujifilm; on par or better than Canon IMO. 2. The DAC in the xt2 or actually good. Again, MUCH better than anything Canon is using. Maybe it's your settings, maybe the external hardware you are using... I have used Sennheiser Wireless lavs for interviews and the sound was very good and got good results even after mastering. Again, this is my own opinion but it is based on 24 years experience as a recording engineer. I own and use professionally a Sony a7rII, A7rIII and A7sII and still opt to use my xt2(I have 2) for certain jobs and don't ever feel that I'm making a quality trade-off.

Thank you for commenting. For your first level (point 1), I believe it does come out to personal taste. The 80D in All-Intra (a hidden and not enough touted setting in 24P) is nothing short of spectacular. I do mention this but I must admit. I did say it quickly. But even then, it does boil down to personal taste. What I find cool is that you disagree with the video being better and see the Fuji as better. Why? Because it drives home the point that there is no absolute truth to this statement an, most importsantly, that Fuji holds their own. As for the audio (point 2). I am pretty sure that I mentioned the "on board" audio. I should have said on board MICS. Which is what I meant to say. I do suggest that one goes out to use an external mic (but I did not say through the mic input jack)which is very decent indeed. But the on board mics on the Fuji are God awful. Now I know that you are probably going to say "Why use on board mics?" Well I truly put a priority on on board mics being good (Even though 9 times out of 10 I do not use them). And for this, the 80D is pretty darned stunning. I will agree though that the mic input on the 80D is not great and that the implementation of the audio input on the 80D is terrible. Fuji destroys them for that with level meters that are out of this world and a whole slew on audio parameters. Again, thanks for commenting

I know Noam Kroll recently bought an X-T2 to use for some of his personal, informal projects, and loves the colour and the film simulations, so that's two knowledgeable video people who like the x-T2 (which is good, as I recently bought one!).

Great video, but one simple question: which prime lens do I need apart from the kit 18-55 f2.8-4 (which I own) for video? think low light video capture of forests, inside buildings, 6-10 foot interviews in dim light, do I need f1.4 or will 2.0 be ok?

The Fuji 2 series are crazy good, super sharp, and fast at focusing. Find a 23 or a 35 used on Marketplace and you are good to go

I used XT2 for a pro video work as a A-cam, mostly on the glide cam, without any problems. Having said that, I used it exclusively with Fuji's prime lenses...

Hello Jacques, thank you for your video, very useful (didn't know Smallrigs do a cage for this camera). What is your opinion about the grid artefacts in the purple flare some XT-2 owners talk about ? Is it visible in 4K or FHD video modes or is it kind of lost within the downsampling and encoding into h264 ? I'm asking because I'd like to use on this camera my set of very old FD glass (non SSC coated) which flare a lot when shooting in backlight. Given your experience with XT-2 and vintage glass, does the sensor render nicely the flares and is there these grid artefacts ? Thank you again for this helpful video, I discovered your channel just know, I'll be sure to check out some of the rest.

Well I have not had that much vintage glass experience in a situation where flares are super present. At least not in a video situation. I have not had that problem with my photo workflow but you know as well as I that these workflows are two totally different beasts. Hope that helps

I agree with Foto, no I don't think Fuji will make the X-H1full frame, interesting to see an APS-H sensor but haven't seen that since the 1DX days. The full frame camera in the works will probably be the X100FF or Z or whatever they name it. I just hope all the firmware features or most come to both the X-T2 and X-H1. Also, i feel the X-H1 is more of a baby GFX optimised for video than an X-T2 with IBIS.

I think that it is possible they can become a contender if they play the right game. Arri is used so often not because of resolution or low light performance, but because of the natural color that is produced from their systems. If Fuji can tap into this, which I think they are with their xtrans sensor technology and foothold in color science, I think they can produce excellent video cameras. I don't care what some people may say about the sensor tech or out of camera color being a gimmick... I truly dig the xtrans grain and the way Fuji produces greens and skin tones.

Thank u so much for the video. I have an xt2 that i use it for stills but would like to use it for video as well-for special family events. If i get the small rig (1888), which is to be used with the battery grip, is there a way to add an external mic AND a flash on top of the small rig? I am asking this question bc i would like to use my xt2 as a hybrid camera-to do photo and video (not at the same time, but one after the other). For example i’d like to take stills for 10-15 minutes, and then record video for 5 minutes. And if i have an external mic on top of the small rig i can do both easily, by only changing the settings on the xt2-since i wouldnt want to carry 2 separate cameras (one for stills and one for video). Your assistance is greatly aporeciated.

Great video! I agree that Fuji's glass is pretty remarkable, especially for the price point vs build and optical quality. Their MK line of lenses look great. Have you had a chance to look at those? I am looking forward to seeing how they perform on Fuji X mount.

I did a review on the Panasonic fz2500. The weak link on that camera is the glass. Also, it was recently discontinued. The X-T2 is a beast. But if you are still into bridge cameras you can look at the RX10 from Sony

Yes. It is over and above my expectations. Remember that there is the 30 minute European time limit on the camera though. So for interviews you might want another camera
