Tyler, FYI, the custom aerodynamic module I made for the Shuttle can be re-used on your Shinkansen as is, of course provided you have the custom fork of FAR to make it work. And another custom module could be cooked up if you have data on what Cl and Cd should be

Gosh I remember when RO was just RSS and few engines and that was it. It is astonishing what the community has done with this game.

I do highly recommend you to check out the launch aborts. If you click the red "!" symbol in the top right of the OPS1 GUI you can select how and when you want an engine failure to occur, the program handles it all very well and amazingly and covers all aborts (except for a few contingency aborts).
