It's certainly safer than HT launchers. However if you make a full blown HT network i highly recommend the hyper boosters mod. The standard HT entrance just isn't powerful enough to send you across the map in any reasonable time. But 2 mk-1 hyper boosters or 1 mk-2 booster will send you across the map in like a minute.

Hypertubes are absolutely essential the moment you get past Space Elevator Stage 2, because trying to _run on foot_ between biomes is painful and you won't have enough production infra to set up platform roads for wheeled vehicles yet. But so far I've been only doing the "single hypertubes with manual stops where you have to jump into a new tube to continue" method, I had no idea _junctions_ were a thing you could set up with the right planning and power switches... (ah, just watched Part 1, this kind of thing only works in Update 8 due to a physics improvement and the addition of Priority Power Switches, no wonder i wasn't aware of the possibilities)

Late game I always just used cannons, trains, and packs to get around as I didn't like adding hypertube spaghettis to my factories. However, the junctions/branching significantly reduces the number of independent point to point tubes! I've already connected up a few of my factories this way, thank you again.

This is a brilliant and much needed guide! On my second playthru I finally tried hypercannons and jetpacks, and relied almost solely on them for transport; then 500 or so hours in, the factory apparently became too large and framerate stuttering resulted in them being unusable - so I went back to my previous save where I could still more or less get around the map using my oldschool prebuilt rubbish tube lines. I simply could not be bothered spending endless hours laying them all out in the new save, especially in their U7 buggy state and with their crappy route selecting abilities in a network... You've given me inspiration to revisit once U8 is released on EA.

This is actually so clever. I never thought about a setup like this. I think I will incorporate something like that in my train setup. I imagine that it would be more easily usable by having a main circuit and then only having priority junctions for the exits. So before jumping in, just switch on the actual exit for your destination or you get sent to a default exit. Or you described it like that anyway and I just didn't pay attention close enough :D

I never thought about this before but now I want hypertubes that still fling you across the map but having junctions instead of a ton of entrances everywhere it’s very interesting that you can have one hypertube a 8th of an millimetre closer and it always goes for that one
@Halterer2 ай бұрын
These junctions are totally awesome, and using them has been a blast! One note though - as of 1.0, the junctions have inconsistent behavior. They generally work fine, but then sometimes the exit tubes don't grab you quick enough and you end up dying on the poles in the middle. Whenever this happens, I've found that restarting the game seems to fix them, and then after some indeterminate amount of time they break again. YMMV, these are totally awesome though, and I hope the variance gets patched soon!
@camiam1442 ай бұрын
I haven't died yet, but yeah, I'm running into a problem where sometimes I lose all of my momentum going into the "priority" tube. It's inconsistent and I can't figure out how to replicate it. Going "back" is totally fine so it's weird. I might try moving the entrances a smidge closer or maybe play around with angles or something. Edit: I removed the cosmetic power pole in the middle and that seems to have solved the issue for now? just get power through the wall and it seems to be fine.

First of all, genius design. I like that the alternate ("priority") route is on/off rather than having to independently control both left and right choices. So, off=default, on=priority / alternate / or what I'll think of as the "override" route. When you got to the point of everything out in the SF world, the priority power switches panel got complicated. Whatever the starting point, the individual switches will be shown in the control interface in the same order. From any starting point to destination there is a setting for all the switches involved of either on or off. Each station could have a list of destinations and the switch settings. For example, to go to my steel plant from my caterium wire factory, it's 10011. If there are switches that are not involved, the list could just show those as "don't care" like 0 1 x x 1. Going beyond vanilla solutions, the ultimate control interface may be to integrate this with FICSIT Networks (FIN). FIN allows you to make elaborate control panels. Turning a dial encoder can select a destination on a display (like a bus destination board), and also display it on a vanilla sign above the hypertube entrance at the starting point. It flips all the switches accordingly to get from that point A to the desired point B. While priority power switches need to control wiring, FIN allows you to control regular power switches with a LAN cable. The priority power switches could be retained for cutting power demand, and eliminate the chances that a power shortage would disable the hypertube network.

This is great; thank you. How much of a difference is it to manually steer left or right instead of using switching networks? I'm wondering how much add-value there is early on and at what level of complexity and travel speed switching networks start to become worth it. Subbed and waiting for more.
@DortamursHobbies Жыл бұрын
You can absolutely start a network with basic junctions earlier in the game. Most of the two networks shown in the video were built using basic junctions, and I've been travelling them using the manual steering method for ages! The remote route switching just makes it easier and more reliable to get to your destination without having to steer. The 5-way split shown at the start was manually switched by running wires all the way up to the top of the tower where you enter - you can see the original switches around the edge of the tower (although they've since been upgraded to priority/remote switches). If you use a basic junction blueprint and start building a network earlier in the game, it should be pretty straightforward to replace them with switched junction blueprints once you later unlock the priority switches (and once Update 8 hits the EA branch).

I watched your video and it was terrific. You did a great job explaining everything and it all makes sense. I will have to go back again. Its causing me to redo my setup now lol. One thing I would have liked to see, and Im not even sure if it is possible, are two way tubes with speed cannons (not accelerators). Like it would be nice to have a bi-way tube that no matter which way you are going in, you will hit a speed booster. It seems that speed cannons are always a single way so that would prevent what I would be looking to do. So it forces us to make two separate tubes for coming and going. Maybe I am wrong? What other type of content are you looking to do next?
@DortamursHobbies Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I plan to cover launchers/accelerators in my next video, along with some optional uses for stored power. You can make a bi-directional accelerator, although usually it's not what you want, as accelerators tend to be at the start as a launcher, and you don't want a burst of acceleration as you come out of the tube. I'll consider adding in some ideas in my next video.

While I've been using launchers to get from major location to major base over long distances, I've been lamenting all the running needed to get to smaller locations like miners. After watching this I saw how to fix this issue and have now blueprinted out various junction boxes that can be plunked down easily, many on top of a standard foundation with ease. I'm even considering doing the priority switch trick for longer distance auto-routing. Sadly there isn't a timer switch in the game to disable things like launcher setups when not in use.

At fast enough speeds, your player body can collide with objects beyond the hyper tube entrances. You can try removing the walls on the hyper tube pieces in the intersections if you keep losing your speed. I had something similar happen to me. It was because of a metal pillar I had about 10m past one of the Y intersections. Another way to fix this is to angle each of the entrances one tick upwards so that your player body gets shot into the air in the split second before it gets sucked back into the hypertube

Okay so like this video quality is like really good. The bird's eye view, the measurement editing, fantastic. However, when we got to the actual content, you were easy to follow, you made sense, you proved and showed it working, and the edits helped a bunch. High quality content! Feedback :: Music Volume is quite loud when you're not talking and slightly too loud when you are talking. I'm turning up the audio to hear you over the music but then when you stop talking, the music gets louder and I have to end up juggling the volumes. EDIT: Definitely wanna see how you got such good speed in your hypertubes. I've added a "cannon" in the middle of a tube (not actually launching us through the cannon) and it only gave a minor boost of speed or it only gave speed until we had to go up. Additionally, my friend in multiplayer has an issue when he enters a hypertube that causes his player data to teleport to the end of the hypertube without visually traveling - have you ran into any significant bugs while setting up your Hypertube network that we should be aware of?
@DortamursHobbies3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! Was the music/speaking balance better in the third video in this series? Hypertubes are currently very buggy in Multiplayer if you're not the Host, and some of the junction switching I show currently isn't as reliable as when I made this video (typically inconsistent losses in momentum through a junction). The upcoming release of 1.0 should fix the bugs, but I'm waiting to see what changes the junction design might need for whatever the final version of the hypertube physics is they implement.

@@DortamursHobbies Thanks for the reply! I've basically put a hold on Satisfactory gameplay for now until 1.0 releases, as my computer struggles to run megabases at a decent framerate and my friend constantly has glitches due to not being host. In terms of your 3rd video, the music volume while you're speaking is fine. Definitely not intrusive, your voice is audible and clear, though the music does feel like it's trying to steal the stage. However, when you're not speaking, the volume increase of the music is significant and I have to still juggle volumes. I am a little biased on this as I notice even minor volume increments.

Got yourself a sub, i've never thought about making hyper tube highways but this video has got me interested. This might be a dumb question cause I haven't had the chance to mess around with these yet but, how do you make the paths default to your main hub if priority is looped? Do you just swap the priority paths to the hub making them the priority instead?
@DortamursHobbies11 ай бұрын
Yes, that's right! While the loop returns you to the hub, the junction at the hub is set up to just return you to the hub, rather than looping around infinitely. You're effectively returning into the original junction, which from that direction has a single exit out to the hub. This is why there's a space between the two branch entrances - if they are too close together you actually will get sucked in the other entrance and sent the wrong way.

So that I could have a default line which stuff always follows, and then I'd only have to press a button when I want to exit off that main line.

@@DortamursHobbies oooh, that's interesting :o I was imagining one that worked off the jetpack, by having a bit of space between exit and entrance, and having your character fall different amounts depending on if they were holding space or not -- but a crouching version seems like it'd be better if it didn't require the extra space between tubes still.
