Thank you for this. I have been canning tomatoes with a friend for a decade. She has an Italian tomato press - but she moved😬. Now I know I can still do the sauce with my kitchen aid. Yay. One thing we began doing was roasting the tomatoes instead of chopping. The roasting releases more natural sugars and the sauce is almost carmelized. Yum

Thank you so much! I do have a little bit of trouble with that. But I find it helps if you cut the tomatoes just a little bit smaller that way I think it has more time to go through before it gets clogged.

We’ve used this for about 5 yrs now. Wouldn’t live without it! We use two tall pitchers for waste/sauce. We don’t clean off the cone while processing and we put the waste through a second time. Your demonstration is good but slow. We use a medium speed. Thanks for the vid

Hello! Good video to show the KA attachment for this! We run the discard bowl of skins & seeds through one mor3 time. Get a couple of extra cups of liquid. We follow the USDA book recipe for no-meat sauce, but I do half green pepper & half celery, the recommended amount of onion, but no mushrooms, (other than the occasional omission, I never deviate from your USDA recipes, as they say you can leave out, but don’t add extras), and then we cook everything in the electric roaster for hours. Once reduced, we do pressure canning of the pints we choose to put up. Pressure canning takes way less water - so important right now - way less time, and , therefore, way less energy. Thank you for showing newbies this KA attachment!!!

I had the same Kitchen Aid food grinder and fruit & vegetable attachments as you. I had to replace my Kitchen Aid food grinder this year. The fruit & vegetable attachment I have will not fit on my new model Kitchen Aid food grinder. I ordered a new model Kitchen Aid fruit & vegetable strainer from Crate and Barrel. Using a mesh strainer seems like a great idea. I am going to try it.

@@handleDAW nope, i don’t do videos… i just watch them lol 😝 a couple of tips for tomatoes… cook them for a few minutes first, you get more juice out of them. Once you have your sauce, cook it down before canning, get the water out, otherwise it will separate after canning and will rise to the top of the jar… not very appealing and you’ll have to cook it down before use. Also, i pressure can mine, not water bath. I’ve tried it both ways and the pressure canned jars have a much deeper flavor. Just sayin’ 🤷‍♀️
