Abnormally excited about this for a variable aperture lens. The size and OIS makes it tempting to replace the 20-60 as the never-take-it-off lens, and swap out to the primes for the "special" shots. For my video use, anyway.

In my area, the money is in corporate events. Which generally has harsh overhead lighting, and the jobs pay really well. In a city like Dallas there’s something going on every day. This is the perfect lens if you shoot with Lumix.
@andrejunior37379 ай бұрын
Where versatility is concerned, I go with the 24-105. On an S5II using the 2 crop modes it is effectively a 24-163 in 4k and if extra reach is needed…it’ll hit 325mm in 1080p via pixel/pixel mode. Constant F4 too. IMO…a Swiss Army lens. That said…I always appreciate seeing you review new lumix offerings. Thanks.
@CalebHoover9 ай бұрын
absolutely stick with what's working- i think the main thing about this is the size and how compact it is
@ImagineVideoclips9 ай бұрын
You mean APS-C mode? That would turn the lens into a 38 x 168 then, right?
@andrejunior37379 ай бұрын
@@ImagineVideoclips In 4k…apsc mode is a 1.5 crop and pixel/pixel mode is 1.56 crop. In 1080…apsc mode is a 1.5 crop and pixel/pixel mode is 3.1 crop. This makes the possible focal range of this lens/camera combo….24mm(full frame)-325mm(pixel/pixel 1080).

A 28-200 is a broad range for sure, but this is not something I’d reach for professionally for video. I’m sure folks will go nuts for it as a new kit lens option. But I’d pass. Lumix should follow Canon’s example and give us an L-mount 24-105mm f/2.8 with a power zoom option. Items like that are what folks doing video really need and want.

People whining about shooting video on f/7.1 out at 200mm clearly haven’t shot at 200mm before. Stick the numbers into any focus calculator… you do not want to be shooting video any lower than f/7, otherwise your depth of field becomes ridiculously and unusably thin. Photography is a different matter.

But would you trade in the Lumix 24-105 F4 for this lens? A little off-topic maybe but in what situations do you use that rig? For handheld work it seems way too heavy and very hard to hold steady. The only rig I have ever used is a shoulder rig but for walking around I prefer the camera pressed against my eye because it's the lightest and most stable. Curious to hear your thoughts.

Glad to see Lumix put out more lenses like this. This pretty much replaces the m43 option Olympus 12-100mm f/4 (24-200 f/8) for people who want FF.

I have both Lumix S5II, S5 and MFT OM Systems cameras. I’m taking the 12-100mm f/4 IS PRO over this hands down. The 12-100 is a really nice, super versatile lens.
@professionalpotato47649 ай бұрын
@@jeremykishminatrea1892 Interesting, what's your reason for that? I tried it out, but I don't own M43 at the moment. It was pleasant to use. However, Panasonic's pricing on the G9ii makes the S5ii a no brainer. They cost the exact same price. Not sure what Panasonic is thinking when the sensor is 1/4 the size. It should cost $1100 max. JIP's OM-1 mark2 (aka Firmware update) also means I'm never buying OM Systems products. I will get an Olympus at some point just for keepsake (I have the OM-1 film SLR), but it will be the OM-1 mk1 which was still designed by Olympus not JIP. Could you give me a reason to still opt for the Oly 12-100 when this 28-200 exists?

HA! I just committed to my g9ii and this is a lens that definitely makes me rethink things. I missed my tamron 28-200 when I ditched sony to come back to lumix. (really happy to be back and I love the g9ii). A lens like this really starts to complicate the choice between a g9ii and s5ii. Adding this to your full frame kit gives you a way to stay ultra light when that is what you need. I love MFT for its lightweight versatility, but these days it's really only the telephoto end where it makes a difference and I could see travelling with just this 28-200 and a favourite prime. I'd miss my super long telephoto MFT lenses, but I don't bring those travelling most of the time anyway. I'm hoping to add a s5ii to my kit at some point, but with this lens I start to wonder when I would reach for my MFT set up except for wildlife. Either way, love the g9ii and love what lumix is doing with the Lmount lenses.

You mentioned and showed the smooth transition between apertures when zooming. How do you keep a consistent exposure if you're zooming from 28mm f.4 to 200 f 7.1 if your shutter and iso are fixed (which it should be if you're shooting video, right?). If you're shooting video on aperture priority, some other exposure setting needs to be set to automatically change. Or are you keeping aperture fixed at 7.1 throughout the zoom range? I'm a still shooter and am trying to learn the differences to take into account when shooting video. Thanks in advannce!
