Great video as always, Mike. Love tracking guitars through a 1081 for the reasons you mentioned. I also love the Helios eq - all its quirks and characteristics are just perfect for getting guitars to jump out the speakers.

After extensive testing vs VEQ4 the UAD version sounds better to my ears. At extreme settings UAD manages to keep the integrity of the source and details better.

what would you say is your "Go-To" plug-in for EQ'ing guitars? I know you mentioned this Neve 1081 as a great choice but would you maybe have any other recommendations?

My favorite is the Neve 1081 and the API 550B is a great second option. SSL channel EQs can also work very well

@@mixingwithmike what is it you dont really like about Veq4 as compared to this UAD plug, and if you had that, and the 550B would you generally use the 550B over Veq also?

Surprised you didn't use the V-EQ 4 for this as I know you like the V-EQ's and the V-EQ4 is supposedly an emulation of the 1081. Presumably you consider the UAD superior - which it probably is....

I like the VEQ 4 but the UA version is closer sounding to the original. I love all of the V-Series plugins, and the UI is also easier to read and work with than the original Neve layout that UA presents. In this case, I wanted the vintage look as well as the sound.

Do you have experience with or an opinion on the T-Racks EQ 81? I have their EQ 73 and love the sound, although it's harder than it should be (for an EQ) on the CPU.
