Yep, if you want to filter query loops by category, start watching 19:00 onwards. Some good points made in this video, but boy does he take his time in progressing things.

Hello, I am looking for a tutorial to figure out how to set the query loop block to get its category from the post it is in. Is that possible and how should I do it?

That's a great question - did you ever figure it out? Sounds like a job for faceted search and dynamic relationships

Does the Query Loop get cached or does the block make a call to the DB every time a user accesses a post it is configured on? What is the impact of the Query Block on the DB and thus on the response times? And as the number of posts increases, does the query loop slow down? Let's say I have 10k articles/blogposts, will the query loop block slow down the page response times?

By default, the Query Loop block doesn't implement its own caching mechanism. Employing pagination or limiting the number of posts displayed per page can help maintain performance, even with a large volume of content.
