You always remember me of my school days, some good things, others not so good. However, when you are working with leather I still think of coming home from school and having half an hour before the bus came and going into the Saddlers. I don't know why, but he only allowed a few of us in, I was the main one as I was keen to do things to help. I can almost smell the leather and rope he used to make cows halters of, though some were made of modern nylon sort of rope. He wouldn't let me use the sewing machine though, in fact he did a lot of it by hand anyway. Makes me relax watching you work with leather.

Thanks for the explanation of the crease tool, and why a bit of heat is necessary. I've only seen electric ones used on KZbin

Hi I think yhe burner might be for curling tongs...similar things turn up on Ebay...victorian curling tongs burner. I use methylated spirit in mine. Best wishes Harry

Hi Jason...the likes of Artisan leather sell adjustable double crease tools, EBay will have second hand, and possible Verges Blanchard or Osborne Tools will have them

Hi Harry, If one was to buy a "cheaper" creaser and the user was say right handed,could the left side of the creaser be slightly filed to give that finer line? Just a thought !

The only one I’ve seen here is at Rocky Mountain Leather. Search for “alcohol heating lamp”. It lacks the old world charm of Harry’s vintage tool but it looks to fit the bill.

Hi Harry just wondering if you can help me, I’m looking for an adjustable creaser at the moment my choices are the artisan or George Barnsley. Was just wanting to know if you’ve used either of these ( it looks like one is the artisan creaser)and if so what are the pro’s con’s, or if you know whether either of them produce a thin or thick crease. I have never regretted buying a Barnsley tool, the quality is very good, I imagine they are both good.

@@popscratchie3985 It is, but it's best done before so that you have a straight upright edge to slide the crease tool along, rather than a rounded one where the tool might slip off.

Hi Harry, How does the creaser work on full grain veg-tan leather that is not waxed. Lets say if I dye the leather and add acrylic coating...would it be best to wet the un-dyed leather, crease it then dye it?

It works fine with natural veg tan...no need to wet it. It should be ok on the on natural veg tan...probably ok with acrylic, but test first as I am less certain as it depends on the type of coating.

I’ve just restored a vintage creaser and may have made a mistake... One edge did seem slightly proud of the other on the tip so I filed and sanded it back so that both were parallel, on the assumption that it should be like others I have seen and used and must have been bent/deformed/worn in some way. Reading this, I’m now wondering if I’ve just removed an intended feature that would have helped to keep the one fin on the edge to make for a more assured line on the face of the work?
