Thank you for your very clear instruction. I am new to using this type of heddle and would like to see more drafts for a variety of bands.

Thank you for you video. I am a fan of Helena Ruuth weaving techniques and designs. Information is very scarce. I wish Helena would wrote her book about her life and her weaving. I want to duplicate her style.

That's a heddle with half-slits, right? What is your opinion of half-slit heddle vs double-hole heddle? I've seen your other video doing the same bands on double hole. Do double hole vs half slit have more advantages? for other techniques? I did my first Samí band with the pattern threads sitting above the heddle. And I use regular Samí half slit heddle for Norwegian Pickup, as well. But it's a bit more complicated to thread it because some slots and slits need to be skipped.

Hi. there are two heddle designs with pattern slots. For the Sigga heddle the background threads are woven in plain weave. The weft goes over one then under one background thread. It is a Sigga heddle that can be used to weave this type of Sami design. The Sunna heddle has a different arrangement for the background threads. They weave half basket weave. This means if you ignore the pattern threads, the weft will go over tow then under two. Usually this means that the weft must be the same colour as the background threads or it will show through in the pattern thread area. This is known as Baltic pick-up - or Norwegian pickup if you have the book by Heather Torgenrud. I prefer the heddle with pattern slots rather than the double holed heddles but they weave a slightly different version of pickup patterns. i hope this helps - sorry for the delay in answering. Hi Susan, I love all your books ! Thank you for writing them. What is your favorite wool to use ?

Hi Ellen Thank you for your comments. I use Sami band weaving wool from Stoorstalka for the Sami bands. I also use 4 ply sock yarn as it comes in such a wonderful range of colours. I have just finished another book for Blurb about weaving letters and numbers which will be for sale next month. I am teaching this topic in a workshop so do check out my blog for November as well. Happy weaving Susan
