Okay that mod matrix is where the real power lies, gonna explore that way deeper over the coming weeks. Thanks Jordan!

Brilliant video man! This has just convinced me to put the Hermod on top of my modular shopping list… Problem I have now though is, do I wait for the new version to be available as they’re perpetually out of stock or just drop £300 on one of these? Hmmmm… Cheers for a really informative video man, new sub for thee here.

Cool video! I haven't used the CV/Gate in's too much yet, but it's definitely worth looking into this topic. Been using the module mostly as Midi/Cv recorder, coupled with my op-1. Hermod is such a versatile and powerful module :)
@JordanColburn14 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, the CV ins and the mod matrix open up a crazy amount of possibilities. My next project idea is trying to map a bunch of generative params to something like the mod wheel to have a big macro controller that will take things from simple to really busy. Any questions you have about the hermod or ideas for stuff I could cover in a future video?
@alexambient74913 жыл бұрын
@@JordanColburn1 that sounds great already! I always struggle to create a full "song" on the hermod and end up playing around with loops, because there are so many possibillities with modulation. Would love to see your approach on a more deeper composition with the hermod. Either generative (nice idea with the mod wheel controling various parameters) or a more classical composition. Cheers!

Wow! That would s great- I am planning on getting a Hermod for my system so I can connect my OP-1 too! So glad to hear that it works well...
@JordanColburn13 жыл бұрын
@@blackrazorus It does. I'm not familiar with the OP-1s details, but it might be even easier/more flexible to use MIDI or the USB ports to interface with it. With the 2 CV/Gate, MIDI I/O, USB Device and USB Host, you can have up to 5 different devices controlling/sequenced from hermod, not even counting the 8 cv/gate outs. It's a very flexible design.
@blackrazorus3 жыл бұрын
@@JordanColburn1 - absolutely! The USB MIDI host capability seems about perfect for interfacing with the OP-1, and some of the OP-1 "sequencing" capabilities would be fun to try out on my Eurorack system - Tombla anyone? :-)

The videos are great but your voice is too low in volume, try balancing that or using a compressor

Thanks for the heads up! I tried a different way recording everything straight into the camera to save the step syncing with audio recorded in the DAW and I got bit by setting the mic too low. Thanks!

Thank you so much for this. Gosh, you have no idea how annoying it was to configure the channels in the beginning. Playing MIDI to device port, and it was just a pain.

How easy is it to then change scale quantization? For example can you set up several chord quantizations and then cycle through them to build a chord progression?
@JordanColburn13 жыл бұрын
Not easy, I don't think. Using scale you could get your root note in the key you want, then you could use the harmony effect to generate a chord (say, 1, 3, 5). Then you could use the mod matrix to change the third major/minor based some CV input. You could also put another scale after the harmony which might force the tones into the correct scale degrees, but I've never tried it. Cool idea though!

Nice video, does the hermod do any kind of round robin or voice cycling? So each note selects a diff voice? Like the matriarch or monopoly
@JordanColburn13 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can select multiple voices in the layout and it will split notes on different cv outputs. Not sure how they are assigned though.

Thanks for this tutorial. I didn't quite understand how to use the Hermod as a quantizer. Do you know if it's possible to rotate between voices when playing polyphonically?
@JordanColburn13 жыл бұрын
Rotate as in pick random voices of a chord or?
@JuanAMatos-zx4ub3 жыл бұрын
@@JordanColburn1 Yeah, the way it's implemented (I think) is very tricky to know what channel you're triggering in poly mode. If you hit one note, that note keeps triggering the same channel instead of going to the next one.

Haha, yes please! I used to actually get an occasional revenue share before they changed the policy to needing 1000 subs, but I post a lot of diverse/random content and never pushed people to "LIKE AND SUBSCRIIIIIBE" so that number always seemed unattainable.

Can you transfer midi files to it?
@JordanColburn13 жыл бұрын
Actually, you can't. I had to look it up. But you can record into the step sequencer from a daw that the Hermod is synced to, so it's possible to load sequences recorded elsewhere that way.
