Was this one of your concerns? When did you first go up the stairs after surgery?

Within the first few weeks. I used our back porch steps for practice, four steps and a sturdy handrail. Getting up one steep step into the house required pulling myself in by the door frame.

Hi Dr. Rosen, The first week my husband walked up & down the stair with me. By week 3 I was pretty good alone (still very cautious) Thanks for another helpful video.

I had to walk up stairs during PT before I was discharged from my first TKA. Post surgery at home I used crutches upstairs (and one to get up and down the stairs) and a walker on the first floor. Forever I have brought my lovely wife coffee in the morning. This was accomplished with two thermal mugs and a small back pack. I did get a hospital bed on the first floor for my second TKA but I still got on the ROM exercises. Listen to the good doctor here

Thank you. We don't have stairs, so this is taking longer in my tkr recovery! I am a little gun shy with stairs because of this.

Falling with any artificial joint is a concern... I'm 60 and both hips have been done...getting ready this year for both knees...severe arthritis in both...yet I put my trust in the Lord Jesus Christ to keep me wrapped in His arms...

Down is always hardest. You are basically doing a single leg squat but it should come with time.
