The idea is to use CPM together with active motion. If you use it properly, the improvement in flexion is visible.

Thank you so much, finally I understand that post operative depression is a real thing. I love your videos because you don't candy coat how hard knee replacement is, physically, emotionally and mentally. I find people that haven't had knee replacement tell me to buck up, get over it and have gratitude. I want to scream.

Depression is hard because it is invisible to those around us and recovery after knee replacement is tough. Glad to help.

Great video , I have had 2 hips done in the past the last year both anterior Both have turned out great . I am 59 and had really bad arthritis First one had zero issues walking unaided in first week , riding the bike week 3 and in the gym every day till back to work at week 12 I’m now 16 weeks post op on the second one This one had a nerve complication , my femoral nerve was injured / compressed during surgery and I had almost total quad palsy I worked crazy hard at getting things moving again and by week 5 ish I was able to start Pilates which really helped Now I’m still in the gym 5 days a week , lots of hiking in the mountains , back to cross fit , Mtn biking . Strength is almost back to normal , doing 400 lb leg press , Bulgarian split squats , box jumps , dead lifts and almost a pistol squat with my first hip I had very little pain , more pain from the arthritis than the surgery , tramadol for 4 days then Tylenol and Advil for 3 weeks Looking forward to skiing and hockey this coming winter ! Other than the nerve issue the anterior was great I forget I’ve had them done Extremely grateful to have my life back
@dradamrosen2 күн бұрын
Yes, the femoral nerve palsy is a real but low risk of the anterior. Glad to hear you recovered. Enjoy the slopes and the rink.

I am at 4 weeks, had 132 ROM if pulled in, but each morning it starts back at ~90 and have to walk bike for 10 min the I can do the chair flex and then do the knee sides in bed , repeat the next day.. Now do chair flex exercises 3x at night, can’t sleep more than an hour or two, but next morning back to 90. How to keepROM? Do the flex exercises 6x a day, knee gets hot , swell and can get pain each flex session!

3 weeks out & at 120 already! You definitely have to put in the work though & serranpeptase helps break up that scar tissue too. It also helps to have a GREAT doctor that you can easily reach him or his team to answer ANY questions you may have. Mine usually gets back to me via email w/in 15 min. of me emailing them!!!!

This video (imo) is the best one by far I have seen on You Tube,. Three weeks post op after a full knee replacement I was starting to get a little bit lazy, but this has shocked me out of complacency. I am doing very well walking unaided, but the leg still feels very stiff. I am at 110 degrees at the moment. I have just ordered a new exercise bike off Amazon, which is rather annoying, because I sold a really good one last year as it was not getting much use Again, thank you very much Adam.

I’m just not sure why my knee feels so heavy if that’s just from the swelling that hasn’t gone away? It’s been 3 1/2 months since the manipulation where they manually bent it for me, but I still can’t bend it all the way back now because it’s so swollen… I am able to hobble around and walk on it OK but it’s that heavy feeling that just feel like I’m dragging a ball in chain!and I guess how would they tell if my body is not accepting it… An x-ray?

Is it normal to be in pain from PT all week to the point where I can't do much of my other exercises??
@dradamrosen8 күн бұрын
Depends on a lot of factors, especially your progress and range of motion. If motion is limited many of my patients have pain until the get past 100 degrees. If your motion is good talk with your surgeon and therapist, if the pain stops you from doing therapy it could be doing more harm then good.

What if your non weight bearing for 6 weeks on the operated knee? Im 2 weeks on from a combined High Tibial Osteotomy and Microfrature procedure. Im doing the PT movements and really pushing it. What sort of range of movement at similar timescales should i strive for.

Dr. Adam I did my exercises on time and went physio but my extension and Rom not good after three months . Surgeon said after 6 you need manipulation, then he changed his mind and left me like this ,what should I do ? Why surgeon don’t do their job 😢😢 I am in pain
@dradamrosen8 күн бұрын
You might benefit from a second opinion. The earlier the manipulation the better to prevent permanent stiffness. This video might help answer some of your questions -kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2a6l2OZedR5gKs

Iam having TKR next month iam so scared but this is the best vid I’ve seen
@FabianFitzner8 күн бұрын
Don’t be worried too much. I am a 42, male athlete and had my TKA 4 days ago. I was very scared of the pain-stories of some people. My pain level was a 2/10 on the first 2 days (nerve block wear off) but the last 2 days it only increased to a 3.5/10. I am only taking Ibuprofen now. No narcotics. But your Doc wil help you with pain management. My nr. 1 tip would be to get or rent an ice machine (like game ready). That helped so much to control tge swelling and pain. 1 hour after the OP I started 24/7 with icing. 60min icing, 30min exercise like my physio explained. Good luck. It will all go great 💪

Game Ready Ice Machine cost about 3K. Stupid money. However, going through 1 TKR and scheduling 2nd TKR I am desperately looking for the Game Ready. This machine is a game changer for TKR, especially the first 3 weeks. I was turned onto this machine by my PT people and is the mack daddy of pain control. All the 150 to 200 ice machines are passive but lack the performance of Game Ready. Good Luck all you TKR peeps.

Talk to your surgeon, usually the leg can be lengthened at the time of surgery.

I had the the rods in both bones. So a total knee revision. My surgeon is the best. The original replacement loosened because of bone failure. I did not go back to the original surgeon. My new surgeon figured it all out and is a miracle doctor. Thank you Dr. Wood. I would never go to another surgeon ever except him. The best👍👍👍👍

I can bend both my tkr knees to 145. If i push further will that damage the joint ?
@joyce763215 күн бұрын
I had an undisplaced femur fracture (transcervical fracture) 6 months ago after a fall. My fracture was fixed with a plate and screws which I now have learned is no longer (for the past 10 - 20 years) common procedure. I am walking ok now though the surgical hardware can at times be un comfortable. I am concerned though why I didn’t receive the latest best practice for my surgery which is just pin and screw. In hospital no surgeon came to explain my situation or to discuss options with me. Only a registrar came who stayed a couple of minutes just to announce that I was scheduled to be operated on the next day and it would be a plate and screws.

I can bend my knee to 130 degrees, no problem. Are you saying my implant won't go "all the way"? My other knee I can bend so my heal rests against my buttocks. No one told me this or I may have chosen to forego surgery, despite the advanced arthritis.
@dradamrosen16 күн бұрын
Average range of motion worldwide is 115-120 degrees. Most implants can bend to 140. The best predictor of how much motion you can get after surgery is how much motion you have before the operation.

Dr Rosen, my surgery was 4 years ago, all went well to include PT however,, completing my therapy, my knee is almost totally locked, the best I can achieve is 113, range of motion was always excellent., 57 yrs old and I have to hold on to something and bend in to put on pants - question is, I do not see anything about years after surgery with ROM getting worse and why
@LaDeLaO21 күн бұрын
The terminology, at least for myself, s/p TKR over 3 years, great success with therapy however, now my "stiff" is frozen. I am 57 years old, I cannot put on my pant leg normally, much less ride bike. Following up with surgeon, he said it was fine, PT improved during appt and immediately lost it as soon as I left. Scar tissue or too large...I am not sure. Researching revision specialist for hopefully...answers
