I have the one piece jig which I've had altered so I can do 7" or 6" from the top of the door, I only use it on new work, I have a home made single jig which I clamp on to the door when fitting new doors into old casings. Keep the videos coming, honest and real world construction, I've been a joiner 37 years and can relate so much with you lads.👍

Why 7 and 6 mate not 6 and 9

@@aaronbell8527 I said 7 OR 6 from the TOP of the door, so I can do 6 and 9 or 7 and 9 depending what it specifies on the drawing

Nice video. Years ago in my Youth I did a massive amount of door replacement and had a very old school Porter Cable Hinge Jig it was a bulky piece of hardware, but worked extremely well for both entry and interior doors once set for the correct setting. These newer setup blow that old thing out of the water and also the router sizes now are smaller than 30 years ago plus available in cordless. Edit also a setup from Door Stud will help you hang those doors very easy.

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment on our video and really pleased to see we are getting experienced guys like yourself watching and liking them. I have for years stayed away from fitting doors because they gave me no enjoyment or sense of achievement. These jigs are good pieces of kit and I dare say I’ll enjoy fitting doors more using them. 👍🏻

That’s good to hear. I was sent the newer version by Trend to try and I recently looked at it in one of our episodes whilst we were completing the Warm deck roof extension if you fancied having a look. 👍🏻

Hi I was just wondering is that router base a separate one you bought to take the guide bush? Mine didn't come with it? Thanks.
@Mr_A_Builders
@Mr_A_Builders 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Pete. If I remember correctly the base is a trend sub base specifically for a Milwaukee router to accept guide bushes. Mine is a trend one. Don’t get a uni base they are too big and don’t fit it’s got to be a sub base. 👍🏻

@@Mr_A_Builders Just had a quick look and found it on the trend website. Gb/5/x sub-base i think its the right 1. Ill have to get 1 sent to ireland. Thanks very much for that help. Because I wasn't sure about them bases before I went and bought the uni 1.

Nice vid mate had the same jig but got rid to much farting about also when you transfer it to door leg if the leg is bowed you have to fart about again resetting the cutter depth 👍

Great video, I’ve just done the same thing! Purchased the cheaper older version and although I’ve not used it yet I’m wishing I brought the skeleton jig instead now! 😂 It is more expensive so I’ll see how I go, I brought the Lock jig and door stand, the door lifted, a router bit set, spent £500 plus on Trend tools today so I’ll see how this jig is and if it doesn’t speed things up enough I’ll get the other one too.

This one’s way more accurate than the skeleton… yeah set up Of the skeleton is easier but there to much play in the whole thing. Even where you lock the block they wiggle loose and stuff!! If you want proper consistency the old one wins hands down
@Robcatist
@Robcatist Жыл бұрын
The old ones better bit more of a faff with set up but more accurate and won’t come loose. Also a work Colleague has the skeleton jig and finds it leaves a to bigger gap at the head of a door.
@Mr_A_Builders
@Mr_A_Builders Жыл бұрын
Hi. I believe this is because a fire door needs a bigger gap around it to accommodate a brushed fire seal but I think it should come with two bits of metal so it can be changed to suit standard and fire doors 👍🏻

Robin clevit hing jig and palm router, those trend jigs are well over the top and far to many bits to lose along the way.
@Mr_A_Builders

Hi Keith and thanks for the comment. Each to their own I suppose. If I’ve got more than one door to do you set up once and off you go. All the parts stay in the bag and go in a certain place in the van to keep safe and free from damage. Thanks for watching 👍🏻

Using a jig on a pre finished door is a bit sloppy m8.

Thanks for the comment and as much as I can agree with you if you missed it I did say that finish was poor on the door edge so we filled, sanded it and finished to a better standard which is why I didn’t mind doing it. 👍🏻
