Great work, I think the carpentry are my favourite episodes. There’s no need for pink board under the stair. Neither storey is relying on it for escape and the stair is open to the room, so it’s not required from a regs point of view. No harm in doing so of course, but omitting it may mean you don’t need to add a bead trim on the underside of the stringer.

@mrabuilders6723 From everything I understand in researching the topic, using foil insulation can create issues. It will act as as a vapour barrier and will encourage condensation and rotting of the top deck. The VCL you have at the bottom has to be the one keeping the warm moist air within the room envelop, offering maximum control/minimizing the heating bill. Then any vapour that does go above it should be facilitated/encouraged to disperse out. The glue inside the OSB top deck is going against that concept, and so is the foil of the insulation (x2 since you have foil on both sides or 2 additional VCL). I'm not a builder, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I'm planning to use tissue faced PIR for my warm roof, and being a sloped roof, I'm just going to skip the entire top deck altogether. Interesting bit about the fixing, these little details are always very appreciated in videos. Thanks for sharing

Hello Michelle, hope you're well. From what I understand when you say " encourage to disperse out" you're talking about ventilation above the initial vapour barrier? Massive no no. This is a warm deck and should be completely sealed. That's the whole point. The top, deck mechanically fixed, is there to create a solid and secure platform to which your chosen roof covering is installed/glued too. Should you use the issue backed insulation and glue your roof covering to that, you're not glueing to the roof, just the issue. If that issue fails, your whole roof will. That's putting a lot of faith in the adhesive that's sticking tissue to a sheet of PIR. Take my advice, do not do that. Just follow the instructions in this video and you'll be fine. Don't over think it.

@@mrabuilders6723 Thanks for your reply. So to clarify my warm roof design is lower deck/VCL/Insulation/breather membrane/batons/counter and shingles. You might want to watch this video, which I find very educational, from a building control lad kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3y2knx5iZyqeac - He referenced BM trada who also does not recommend using timber between VCL and waterproof covering. I could find their 2014 Timber Industry Yearbook on Issuu Dot Com which contains that recommendation, so apparently this has been out for some time.... I do tend to think through things in details... and occasionally overthink it's true but having a good roof above your head is important :-)

Without sounding too much like an arse,I can imagine there could be issues regarding the fitting of the dishwasher,re. the fixed aluminium trim/and the final dishwasher height,especially if it is a fully integrated model,I like your attention to detail re. the fitting..the problem with "kitchen designers",is that they invariably do not have any experience regarding the challenges etc,as a result of their designs..as you have found out,and I say,anyone who has fitted kitchens,unless the designer has had prior fitting experince..

I was having a giggle at your expense when some bit of this incredibly techie job went a bit wobbly, and the phrase "6P" came to mind(Proper prior planning prevents p**s poor performance).. Not actually applicable in this case but it was the realisation that the standard opening hinges of those top upward opening cupboards were going to hit the ceiling!!! Another learning moment. That said what a great job.

As a DIY enthusiast with some big projects of my own to work on I love all Mr A Builders videos as they help me no end. I recently installed my own kitchen (first time) and I bought myself a Stabila digital level (told the wife I neeeeeded to have it). I found the digital part very useful when levelling the cabinets as it provides an audiable tone when perfectly level. it meant i could just adjust the feet and listen to the tone rather than checking the bubble after every twist. Every little helps. 👍

When cutting the end panels at point 24.13 it looked like you took a shallow pass first, then lowered the saw to full depth. Do you this to help prevent breakout on the face of the board ? Well Phil here’s my reply and my opinion. The wrong way around based on what exactly? Have you seen the channel before? If you have you’ll know that the kitchen floor was a flat and level surface following our liquid screed. The customer decided to have LVT and the floor layer was organised by the customer. The fact he was there the same time was not my doing and certainly not ideal. I’m sure it’s a great way for a floor layer to have no obstacles but it’s certainly a waste of money for the Customer to have the extra m2 of ply and latex and flooring under cupboards. 👍🏻
@phil25051
@phil25051 3 күн бұрын
@@mrabuilders6723 Fair comment. Out of your control then? Lvt is not a short term flooring solution like maybe sheet domestic cushion floor, so in my opinion i would of insisted in having it fully fitted wall to wall and sealed. Not trying to save a couple of pound on a project of this scale. It would of avoided the block of wood you have used under one of the units legs!! In the future when a kickboard has to removed for what ever reason, will the sealant that i assume you are going to use be replaced? Probably not! The next problem could be the LVT blowing off the adhesive due to water? Depending on what adhesive has been used. If you think im correct dont reply🤣🤣🤣🤣
@mrabuilders6723
@mrabuilders6723 3 күн бұрын
@phil25051 flooring was nothing to do with us and didn’t get organised by us. We found out the floor layer was on site three days before I was due to fit the kitchen and had no time to reschedule. Saving a few quid isn’t down to us on a job that’s not in our quote. Our opinion was never asked for so therefore wasn’t offered. I’m presuming the customer followed the instructions from the floor layer and not the person who knows nothing about LVT flooring and doesn’t wish to. My comment was merely my opinion which is what we are both well within our rights to offer. If you think you right that’s fair enough.

Nice work as always. Wanna hear my radical concept? No wall mounted cupboards. I have an irrational hatred of them. They make a room feel oppressive and cramped and only serve as a place to store crap. I didn’t put any in when I replaced our old kitchen and the room feels open and spacious and allows room on the walls for a bit of wanky art and a narrow shelf of fancy tat my wife likes to display. Trust me you don’t need them. We can adequately store all our stuff in floor mounted cupboards, (family of four). More cupboards = more space you don’t need so you fill it with crap. Try it, I dare you.

So they've got a cupboard, that has a rear piece that is attached with Q Clips hiding the manifold. If any work needs doing on the manifold will it be: 1. Remove the top workpiece (single piece of quarts or whatever it is covering the cupboard and appliances) 2. Knock back panel towards front of cupboard to disconnect Q Clips 3. Lift back panel out Please tell me those deaths stairs the customer did from the old part of the house to the new house aren't staying?! 🤣
