Goodness! As a person who just started playing bass(2 weeks) this lesson has helped me understand some of the music theory behind the instrument so much. This lesson has been by far the most useful and easiest to follow. Thank you for posting!

Hey Scott, Thank you so much. I have started back playing after 35 years and I have really been blessed with your lessons. I hope to one day to be able to share the knowledge I have as you are currently doing. Please keep up the great work and lessons.

I started out as a guitarist and a singer that branched out into the rest of your 'pop band' selection of instruments. I haven't found a resource for drums or keyboards like your stuff on KZbin, Scott. I never thought I could really play anything more than just roots on bass because I've got relatively small hands, but your lessons have helped me get around a bit more than I could. Thanks so very much.

Roots thirds and fifths. I'm a rookie bassist, mildly ok guitarist but I started playing bass for a folk group my wife and daughter belong to. Like I said I don't have much experience but using this method I've been able to create bass lines for just about everything that comes my way. Throw in an octave for the fifth every once in a while to mix it up. If you're a rookie like me the first thing you need to do is learn the fret board. It takes a minute but trust me, it makes the rest so much easier.

Best damn lesson yet. I know some people really click with approaching theory from the top line melody perspective, but for me aproaching it from the bass side is really helping me. And I learned to read music in high school. Reading music in no way helps with composing, jamming, etc. Ya have to be able to connect the dots.
@adamolson93978 жыл бұрын
Something else you can throw in that is very simple is the octaves of the 3rd and 5th as well, which would be low E (open E string) and low G (third fret on E string). All the sudden you have 6 notes to use off the simple triad in one finger position.

This is an awesome video. I'm originally a drummer, so I picked up the rhythm aspect of the instrument rather quickly. However, it was making these bass lines that had me confused, but this explained it really well. Gracias.

I wish this resource had been around when I played bass as a teenager! This is gold! I learned so many basslines when I was young but I had no idea why they sounded good, and when I tried to come up with my own they were either crap or it would take me an absolute age of trial and error to come up with anything decent.

I've just started watching your videos as a beginning bass player. I really enjoy yours because you are teaching music theory along with the bass. I look forward to knowing how to create my own riffs instead of learning them from some tired "riff recipe book" that I see with other youtube channels.

wow~~ thank you so much for the lesson! I've been doing root, 8th for the longest time (and really that's what our worshp band really need for simple comtemporary worship music). Nobody ever give me an lesson and when I see other bassist who can fill in and do walking bass line and all that, I REALLY want to learn it. I saw many youtube video and they are either assuming I know what it is or they just show you what they do without explaining. It took me awhile to figure out dude, that's(1/2)

Good morning from Japan. I always learn a lot through your lesson and found another great lesson here, Thanx. Don't you have any plans to make video lessons about EQ. Now I am struggling with a question "how I can create my own sounds?" I would like you to show us some examples, how to create typical jazz, blues, pop, and rock sounds etc... I know it is not all about EQ, but I need your advice. Cheers.

Move the triad shape to the G when the guitarist changes chords. Try to look at where the shapes overlap and walk over those notes during the transition for a more complex line. Throw in some chromatic approach notes for another level of complexity. :)
