The operations of using VFD for single phase motor speed control are not complex. In this video, ATO will show you details about running a single phase motor on a VFD. It's important to note that there are two wiring methods for single phase motor connecting to ATO single phase VFD: wiring of removing motor capacitor & wiring of keeping motor capacitor. At first, you should choose the wiring method you needed, and then set basic parameters step by step.

You can configure any vfd to decrease voltage. If you need to use vfd to control not 3-x phase motor then you should use it in V/F mode. And in case, that stop in warning, you can turn off the control of symmetric (it may have other name in the config of your vfd).

It can not be done. Single-phase motors will never run smoothly through a Variable drive. I am able to prove my point. The motor will overheat within the 1st 40 seconds......!!!! Good luck watching this video. Load balance is a b.tch.

Where is the auxiliary winding tip connected after the capacitors are removed? Because when the motor is powered by load, it seems impossible to start without an auxiliary winding.

This is a single phase feed to the drive but a 3 phase feed to a 3 phase motor. The title of the video gave the impression that the motor is single phase.

I also can use this if I electify my backyard railway with 220V 50HZ third rail, for example, I hook up a throttle to the vfd if I can hook up it to a throttle, but then, I need to calibrate the vfd next to the throttle potentials, and then, I need to hook up the neutral to the wheels and the live to the contact shoe, then I need to electrify my railway next to 220V 50HZ coming from third rail

It is not possible to switch CW/CCW in the form of a button, because this is determined by the construction of the single-phase motor. with or without removing the capacitor.

Can you clearly explain how this single-phase-motor VFD drives the START Winding that gets disconected from capacitor (normaly capacitor provide SOME PHASE SHIFT but not the exact angle delay of a phase #2 or phase #3 delay over 360 degree sin-wave)? The value of capacitor in uF determines the phase shift and max current allowed through the start winding. Matching phase angle and max current must be non-trivial, right? presumably the single phase motor is designed properly, the VFD should be able to drive the motor properly. Firstly you need to select a VFD a bit larger than the motor as only two phases can be used, the master phase needs to have higher current to get the same power as a three phase case. Secondly the phase protection has to be disabled as only two phases are used. Thirdly the two windings in the single phase motor are not made equal so before using the VFD, you'd better to find out the phase difference shifted by the capacitor. For motors have the starting cap, do not worry about that as VFD starts from 0 Hz so starting is not an issue. In a ideal conversion, the auxiliary winding which has lower current but a phase advanced by the running capacitor should be in series with an inductor or capacitor to wind back some of the 120 degree supplied by the VFD so that the total degree shifted to be kept about the same as if made by the running capacitor from the single phase. The advantage of using a VFD in such way is you can adjust the speed. It also has lower starting current and some of the features VFD control provides but ultimately, only a three phase motor can deliver the full potential of the VFD. I hope this info helps.

The vfd varies the applied frequency, to the live conductors. It doesn't control either start or run winding individually? The capacitor does aid with phase shift in power factor correction. In a motor the phase displacement that enables rotation, is done by physically displacing the start winding. Caps just there too add torque in a motor.

I did something similar for a single phase washer mtr. The goal was to lower start torque and current spike hurting consumer-grade contactors... so I simply used a SOFT STARTER. (Run speed rpm unchanged)
