Proof of concept video that a single phase 110V /60Hz Permanent split capacitor AC induction motor on my grinder can be connected and operated as a variable speed motor using a 1-3 phase VFD with single phase 110V AC power.

IMPORTANT NOTE: To make this work I needed to select the correct VFD for this type of operation. The VFD has to have an input of 110V and output of 110V. Please be aware there are many VFD's with different input and output phase and voltage configurations.
The VFD that I ordered and performed this test was VFD RATTMMOTOR 2.2KW VFD 110V Single to 3 Phase Inverter Variable Frequency Drive Spindle Motor Controller Converter 0-1000Hz+Extension Cable for CNC Router Milling Engraving Machine

Actual model number: H100-2.2C2-1B
Input: 110V 50/60Hz
Output: 0-110V 12.5A 0-1000Hz
My test motor is King Canada KC-895LS 8" Low Speed Bench Grinder 120V, 3A, 1750RPM
Note this will not work with an AC motor that has a centrifugal clutch that disconnect the start capacitor once the motor starts up. Those motors have secondary starting windings that are thinner gage and are not designed for continuous operation.
Programming VFD and parameter values for this operation and VFD can be found on the following second video
