Always nice to be seeing someone have fun out in the woods. I'm chomping on the bit to get out and away from everyone else and have my fun in the old woods.

The Brades is my favorite cordwood axe by far. I love everything bout the main wedge, but it is surprisingly a bit sticky and doesn’t pop chips as well as I’d have hoped, but it packs a lot of wolop at 3.25lbs in such a small package. Can’t wait to try out the double though. Going to do a video on them both together.

Awesome video. Nice to see the english pattern getting some love. Its quite a rare axe even here in england, most old axes are either kent or yankee pattern. God bless

Cool video! I'm glad you had the S&N in this. I've got a couple E&S but never thought about hanging them figured they'd be sticky. It wasn't too bad in that maple.

It wasn’t too bad, but not as free as the Brades. That little Kent Felling pattern is my favorite cordwood axe. The whole package: head, handle, sheath.

If you live in America, ‘fraid you missed the train on that one. They’re almost impossible to find here. Thankfully I got this one two years ago for $50. I could probably sell it now for $150 in the states any day of the week without a handle.

Great footage sir! Nice axes to bring as well. Nice underhand! Probably feels a whole lot safer wearing that new chainmail. I order a set not too long ago. Hopefully it will be here soon. Can’t wait to see you tackle the base of that tree with some bigger tools. How’s your tennis elbow feeling?
@KevinsDisobedience2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t even attempt underhand without it. That was basically my first go at it. If I lame myself, I don’t get paid. Too much depends on me waking up everyday and going to work. Even with the chain mail, until the first chip came out I was hyper focused on sticking the axe. Glad to hear you got a pair. Who from? Gotta get my 4lb Dayton hung again. Elbows and wrists and burning as I type this. Last week’s drywall work destroyed them. I’ve just given up worrying about it at this point. It is what it is. At some point I’ll get shots.

That's a meaty hinge! I was actually thinking about the curved blade in this circumstance the other day. One day I'll sharpen up one of my cross cut American saws and fell a tree. It's not legal to fell trees here in almost all circumstances unfortunately. Only felled one with a chainsaw so far. I am dying to fell some trees. Can't do a lot of bucking with the axe anymore so I am hoping felling will be easier on my body. It's not natural to make a notch like with an axe. I've practiced a tiny bit and you make it look easy. Hard to get that angle right on the straight swing.
@KevinsDisobedience2 жыл бұрын
She pulled a lot of wood! I was just glad it went that direction. I was sure I’d have to wedge it. Where do you live? Yeah, keeping that bottom flat takes some practice, but it is the proper technique, even though you can often get away with bad face cuts.

I have a Kelly Baltimore Kentucky Wedge axe . I was surprised that your S and N wedge chopped like that. I thought wedges were more for splitting. But maybe your S and N's bit is narrower than mine? what is the angle? I've also concluded that axe guys make better neighbors , especially on Sundays . No one likes the sound of chainsaws. That was a righteous fell.
@KevinsDisobedience2 жыл бұрын
Cool, I’ve never seen one! They’re definitely good splitters. I have the wedge set right at 20 degrees no micro bevel. She works okay. A little sticky. That’s the best part about working with an axe. No rev of an engine.

@KevinsDisobedience2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, an oversight on my part. The Brades is just under 3lbs on a 28” handle, and the Snow & Nealy packs 3.25lb is a small wedgy package.
@Bkellyusa2 жыл бұрын
@@KevinsDisobedience - I thought the S&N looked kind of wedgy myself but it seemed to perform comparable to the Brades axe. Did I miss something?
@jordanstevens81322 жыл бұрын
You may already know this, that's not a Kent pattern axe. They're similar to what you American types call hewing axes, more of an all purpose tool that can do some carpentry, some wood processing. You have a Welsh pattern, which is pretty much just a felling axe. Odd that you have a "lightweight" one, the most common weight I see is five pounds and seven pounders aren't unusual. You might have a rarity on your hands there, and it's a long way from home too.
@KevinsDisobedience2 жыл бұрын
Not quite…so your thinking of a regular Kent. This is a Kent felling pattern. A Welsh is a bit more curvy in the bit-think Lamaca Work Axe-that’s basically a welsh pattern. And yes, this 2.5lber is pretty rare. They are usually 4 and up.
@jordanstevens81322 жыл бұрын
@@KevinsDisobedience Well consider me educated and appreciative. I can see the more angular transition before the bit and the ears but I'd never heard of a felling pattern from Kent. You might have just added another excuse to buy another axe to my list, excellent work.
