Hello and thank you. I have hated File Explorer for a long time (for my photos). I didn't understand it and didn't know how to use it. Tonight, around 10:30 p.m. I was frustrated and decided to Google how to navigate F Explorer for photos and found your video. Wow, I don't dislike File Explorer anymore. The details section is great. I was so frustrated with the date(s) on my photos being changed to date modified or downloaded and thinking I'd lost the date taken...now I see that's not true. It's now 1:00 a.m. and I'll have to finish watching and exploring more tomorrow.

Hi and thanks for your clear and simple videos. I have my photos in File Explorer but it might be easier to work with them on the "Photos" app on my PC. All the pix in the Photos app are chronological, but in F. Explorer to put them into folders. Is there an easy way to sync that folder system (say, by family name, or documents I've scanned or uploaded) into the Photos app or do I have to start all over in Photos with making albums or folders? (I hope my question is clear)

Hi Deborah - I find that working in Photos has its drawbacks. I actually don't recommend using it except for simple photo edits perhaps. I did do a review of Windows Photos awhile back. Hello again. I have a question. I have pictures in File Explorer that have date taken as 6/22/2016...but the date created and modified are both 11/9/2016. So they all show up under that date rather than date taken. Is there any way to edit the created and modified dates? I'm not exactly sure how those dates changed. I didn't think I downloaded them or moved them from some place else.

I watched this because I was hoping to learn how to search for & find pictures based on their metadata tags. I am wondering if the inconsistency of the approach you advocate here ever presents a problem? I've always organized my photos in folders by year and month, but I am second-guessing my decision to do that since Windows provides the ability to sort the files by date. If there is a way to search the metadata to find pictures, then that would do away with the need for special folders for special pictures. Those are just my thoughts, questions, and input. Thanks for the video.

Hi Kipster, thanks so much for watching! Using Windows File Explorer isn't fun for adding and searching by metadata. With that being said, the folder structure is personal to your situation. If you are taking time to add tags (career, holidays, pets, for example), then you wouldn't need the special folders. Other programs can do AI assisted searches (Google Photos, Apple Photos) meaning you can just type in sunset and all of your photos with sunset will appear in the search. Hi there - Windows File Explorer does not group by faces or use any type of facial recognition automatically. You can tag photos yourself, but this is tedious and not fun to search with in the File Explorer search bar. If you use the Windows Photos App, you can turn on the "People" feature. . . however the Windows Photos app is not the best solution for managing photos. what happens when you have a photo that fits into two folders

Good question!! Usually, I recommend that people have photos stored in one folder - storing chronologically this isn't a problem. Can you describe what the photo is of and what two folders it fits in? Sometimes I find clients who have folders with the names of family members and then they make duplicates in each folder when there is more than one person in a picture. This is not sustainable. Sometimes, people have photos that they are storing chronologically but want them to be in a folder by subject. I had a ton of photos from going up north to my family's cottage. I actually created a main folder for Cottage and then had sub folders in it chronologically. You could also use tags, but I'd need to know more about the situation. I don't know if this helps . . . but if your situation is just a one off photo - I think you can keep a duplicate in the other folder. Cheers! Mollie
