I love this collage. Quotes and writing have always been a part of my life. I come from a family, on my Father's side, of prolific writers. My Father and I wrote letters to each other and he coressponded regularly with his family members. But I was the lucky and blessed daughter who he regularly corresponded with, because I wrote back to him. He was the keeper of our family history. As a Native American man, one of the few his age who were still alive and were taught the old ways. He wanted his children to have a written record of his own history and the history of our people. Whenever he read a book (we were also readers and had a library and a huge old dictionary where we as kids had to look up the meaning of words), he wrote a "book report" of what he'd read and I would often get those accounting through our correspondence. We can trace our family tree back generations upon generations because of him. And because of my interest in reading and history, I have a deep appreciation of your craft and the art/history that you create. I'm not sure you're aware of what an important role you play in the world. You have touched more lives than you will ever realize because you value vintage pieces, words, photographs, ephemera and books. The materials that are the history of mankind. You are probably way too young to have ever been stuck in a typing class. But when you said the words "The time has come..." I was reminded of something we had to type over and over again (and this is not meant in any way as a political statement.) "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country." The quote is longer and includes a brown fox, but I always shortened the words😊 because I am naturally a rebellious person. The reason I bring this up is because it's a meaningful quote to me and words matter. I was reminded of something else when you said you liked the number two. My in-laws liked to gamble and so I would be swept along on trips to Reno and Vegas, even owning a home there at one time. But "deuces wild" was a family favorite. I never gambled long, except at the dice table when some wild craze came over me and I was yelling "Come on, baby needs new shoes!" I realize that I have written a short story and shared way too much information but a few of the things you said brought be trippin' down memory lane. And in that process I hope you gleaned the meaning that I was trying to impart. That I value and appreciate your craft and the work that you put into making this channel an amazing one.

sage advice from such a young whippersnapper! I agree - we need to give ourselves permission to use the "good stuff" now because we may not be around later to use or enjoy it. tomorrow is promised to no man. I was diagnosed with cancer a couple years ago and learned quickly to enjoy the little things and the special items now, before it's too late. (I give God the credit and glory for my healing. praise the Lord. He is good indeed!)

Love your collage work! I'm a newbie to thiis journaling adventure, but I have puzzled it out in the last couple of days that I would do what I just watched you do! This is so healing and joyful for me! Oh! When I'm working with delicate paper in my card making, I have found that I love using a soft make up brush with my oxide inks, brushes are from the dollar store! Gives me a soft finish and helps maintain the integrity of the delicate materials! You are awesome!

Morning Nik :) love this page it just makes me want to play in a journal. I love quotes and you have inspired me to make a journal of my favorite quotes... Special things to remember... Things to treasure in my heart. You are so sweet to tell us we are worth using those special somethings even though no one else will ever see them... I held something in my hand just yesterday and ended up not using it because the thought ran through my head... It's just for me, and no one will ever see it... I laid it aside to use another day. I love making others feel special... Giving words of kindness and small gifts from my heart. I make little journals to take with me when I go for chemo - sometimes I give them to people I come in contact with who look as though they need to know they are special.... Now the nurses and my doctors will come to me and say I have a patient who could use a little encouragement, do you have any journals left. I love that they go home thinking someone cared enough about them to invest a little time to make them smile.... Just so you know.... There are days you make me smile :). Hugs, Michele. Oh... Do you always use fabri-tac for metal embellishments? I'm always worried they will come off so I don't use them very much.
@NiktheBooksmith6 жыл бұрын
What an absolutely kind thing to do, you made my day, Michele! Thank you for sharing that =) On the Fabri-Tac...not all the time, but the button is soooo lightweight, that this adhesive will be just fine. The metal tag has brads through it, so its not going anywhere. But, if I was making a journal for someone else, Id use an adhesive for metal =) You are a doll, thank you for taking the time to make such a sweet comment! 🤗💕 oh and p.s...promise me you will use one of those special somethings just for you, in your own journal, something that makes you happy to look at. =)

Really nice collage page! I love things that aren't necessarily pristine - in fact, I'm much more comfortable with them--much better for a klutz like me!! Given a choice between a contemporary item and an antique or vintage item, I'll nearly always choose the older item with character and a story.

I usually think when I make something lovely that I “should” give it as a gift to my kids or a friend. (I’m 65 so this has been a very long-standing belief). I just recently realized that I am allowed to make something and keep it for myself. This has been a strangely freeing feeling. When I make something for someone else I have this silly idea that it MUST be perfect. So the making and giving have been very stressful. It robbed me of any joy in the process. I can, however, enjoy playing if I’ve given myself permission to keep my creation. So that’s what I am now doing and it feels great!

So many things I learned by watching your videos. This time I learned how to catch a snake and that you are afraid of spiders! LOL Well I hope that spider went away and that you don't have to do any more taxes. I feel you in this one, I prefer spiders to taxes myself! I do agree that people do throw away so many beautiful things without a second thought...Things that seem small and unimportant but you and I would enthuse over having! I love your messy studio, your upside down quote (upside quotes are just a different point of view) and your final page it is so pretty! Thank you very much for another very inspirational video! 😍❤📝📎

Okay, so. The about the "thing I've been saving for the special project..." Looking for some ideas of how to use some awesome old 3x5 index card dividers I found in a file drawer I bought a while back. I keep thinking how cool they are, but don't know what to do with them. They are a faded aqua color with the alphabet printed on them. Part of me wants to keep the whole kit n kaboodle together somehow, but part of me knows that would be a hard bill to fill.
