Over a year later and I love this episode. About the memories sketchers and plein air painters keep, I wrote this in my latest newsletter ... "Two and a half hours. That's about the time I have to complete a plein air painting -- and my first thirty minutes involve no painting. That is when I sketch and immerse myself into my space. Once the sketch is done, I "walkabout" to psyche myself up for the watercolour to follow. What I love about the process is the zen-like feeling of being able to absorb all the senses about me; the smell of a campfire breakfast, the cry of a seagull, dappled light washing across the forest understory, a fresh breeze off the lake, the taste and sip of my favourite tea. Then, by painting (and maybe writing about it afterwards), I will sear memories of a place, unlike any other past time (except maybe unicycling 800km from Yarmouth to Baddeck)." Thanks for a wonderful podcast. I now subscribe.

Brilliant advice from wonderfully skilled artisans....remembering and seeing in your mind what you see and learn what to put in your image story. so many take aways and underlines to craft of urban sketching and being human.

Another good edition! Thanks very much. BTW, the Pentalic Aqua sketchbook is back. In US, Jerry's Art-a-Rama and Cheap Joe's both have them in stock.

I just have to repeat what Eileen Goldenberg wrote while lsitening to Captain Tom sharing about the underwater sketching: "Sketch that shark ... fast!" ha,ha,ha! That's golden!

So happy to see this, especially Marina's. Her sketches inspire us to just go out there, record and have fun. True spirit of Urban Sketching. I must miss majority of these videos. Maybe someday I can spare time to watch it live.

Captain Tom is one of my favorites. I tried copying his style just to learn but it's harder than it looks.
