Used this plenty when in Marines. Leaked like crazy and ended just rolling my tarp with gi wool. Some top officers thought this was good when they did trials in Quantico, never listened to us grunts on how shity it performed.

i used this in the marine corps, didn’t stand up to rain, but also was used a lot. Also surprised how warm the system was

Stopped watching the second I saw there was nobody in the bivy.

You're being way too critical. I thought seeing the bivy being flooded from the outside was a good demonstration. It wouldn't have mattered if he was in the bivy or outside the bivy to see if was waterproof.

I use this Bivvy, it’s good for cold environments but it won’t keep you dry. I’ve had to sleep in a down Poot and I woke up in the middle of the night in a pool of water. Would not recommend if you’re using it as a standalone. If you had overhead then yes

Thanks for the warning.. was wondering just how useful this would be in heavy rain in the field... my assumption was correct it seems from your commeng that i would be flooded out eventually.. Would a tarp solve this problem completely and of course sleeping where the water can roll downhill as much as possible ?

Just used this last weekend in Indiana. Got down to only the 60s at night. Only using my woobie i still had to unzip it because it was hoooooot.

How good is it at keeping the bugs out?

I hate mine, I make sure to put up my tarp on field ops and use this as a small extra layer for warmth retention but not water resistance, these things suck even when new

hey man, this is strange but take it to the car wash along with any tarps or other trash you want water proofed. Spray it down with rain X. Let it dry and spray it down again. I do this to all my new gear and don’t have to spray it again until after a big rain. Only 5 bucks every time

@@hanzsolo5460 first I’ve heard of that idea taking camping gear to a car wash. That’s actually a pretty good idea. So much of this gear big and bulky, and you’re right the car wash does have water repellent spray option the rain X or equivalent. Just have a good means of stringing up the bulky long items maybe hanging them off of the side of a SUV from the roof rack etc. or possibly you could string A ridge line from the roof rack to tie off point in the car wash like a clothesline then hang the gear and saturate it. Love the idea and thinking outside the box. Never heard this idea from anyone else previously. I usually do mine in the bathtub with a product that’s a DWR from Atsko. The non-silicone version I use on Gore-Tex like the ACU military variant, and if I’m doing a tent will usually just use a can of their silicone spray. But yeah I’ve always done the bathtub method at home. Like the way you think.🎉

Mine is just a cover to keep dirt off my sherpa fleece throw. Wash both once in a while.

I like it but would have been better if there was an exterior cover that covered the insect screen so that you can have it open to allow for some ventilation and still keep the rain out

The rain cover is on the inside. You zip the rain cover off from the inside, and you’re left with just mesh on the outside
