Upon my arrival at Parris Island 1980 Plt 3046 I soon realized to my dismay that the mosquitos could flat foot fuck a turkey. Gas lighting was considered just another form of communication. IE: Training is progressing. Therefore we have been authorized by FMF to make a trip to Mc Donalds. GET OUTSIDE NOW! ( joy me so happy) GET ON YOUR FACES!!! First were gonna enjoy some "Mc push ups". I never knew you could dislike a human being that much....

Wow! I was in Platoon 1070 one floor above these guys that year. I recognized the DI’s voice. It was the most fun I never want to have again. The Gulf War was on and the gloves were off. 54 of us got off the bus at receiving. 26 of us made it to graduation day.

You missed the Gulf--it was an awesome war. K 3/2 was so motivated, we got drunk in Dubai and Abu Dhabi; I was a shit-bag not to have personally thanked Saddam Hussein for the epic save. It was lowly of me not to have contacted him before he got hung. We'd just started a CAX in CA. We'd just got off the bus; it was hot as goddamn shit--worse than Oman was, actually, and fast--within a short time prickly heat set in, it was clear that CAX was going to seriously suck. We hadn't done any work yet or gotten dirty and were already miserable; then we got saved by a dictator "'Get back on the bus, boys--we're going to war!' 'HOORAY!!!'"

Dear MosEisleyBlues Thank you for responding! He couldn't, and can't disclose his job, or even tell me where he's at on his multiple deployments. The Marine Corps will take his communication privilege away if he gives it away. The only thing I know, is that when he's in the states, he's an instructor on the rifle range. I wish I knew more but I don't. I'm sorry about that. Your reply had just appeared on my phone even though it was written by you 2 months ago.

MosEisleyBlues p.s. I can let you know that on 1 of his deployments he was severely injured and the injuries healed well after several surgeries, and he was allowed to continue his career. He was so worried the whole time that his career was over because of the extent and magnitude of the injuries. very fortunate that he A), He survived and B), he was able to continue with the Marine Corps. My other son joined the Marine Corps when he was old enough, and he was the crew chief of a particular helicopter that I can't disclose info on, or the same punishment of losing his communication privilege would happen just like his brothers would happen. Everything is top secret. I dont know what his current job is. Wish I knew. There is 1 thing I know about each one of them is that infantry is not what they are. I hope you have a wonderful day and thank you for asking.

USMC Mom, thanks for the kind words. When the first Gulf War broke out, we were ready to go join the USMC at that time. However, we were told it would be over before we completed basic and it was. The chunky, short dude to the left reminds of my bunk-mate; he was former Army but fucked-up by getting an Army tattoo on his arm when he was in--then he fucked-up for real by going to Parris Island. When that tattoo was discovered--it became a hot topic nearly immediately--what happened after that was a million times more entertaining than this video will ever be.

Tell me something. Is Inspection Arms graded as a synchronized movement during all movements? I remember we always tried to get the single bolt on Port , but we didn't obssess on it. Heard it wasn't graded as a full precision movement.

Did they take "Sling Arms" out of the drill manual? I went through recruit training in early 98 in San Diego and I don't recall ever doing those drill movements. I'm certain it wasn't part of final drill. Or am I just forgetting? I thought I remembered every second of recruit training, down to the smell of the squad bay. Weird that I would forget drill commands...

The guide doesn't get a rifle, they're expected to go everywhere and do everything with the guidon; even at Denny's, where it can be stolen in a moment of eating too much and nodding off--it's a responsibility not to be taken lightly.

Ranstone, I arrived on Parris Island on April 1, 1956. It was one week before the Ribbon Creek tragedy. DI's used punches, slaps, choking, slurs, ridicule, and other teaching methods to emphasize the importance of what we needed to learn. My DI's had been in Korea, and my senior DI had been in WWII and Korea. They had reasons aplenty to drum those lessons into our thick skulls.

I was never in the USMC; I was in the army and went to basic back in 1987. Back then the focus was on defeating the Russian's, and watching out for the welfare of your fellow soldiers. What a different world! Ronald Reagan was the commander in chief; and, our country, society, and way of life was vastly different. If everyone had to experience the challenges of boot camp/basic training our country would be a much better place.......hooah!
