As a JROTC member, I would like to clear any misconceptions about what is occurring in this video. This is a JROTC competition meet. It is not a youth boot camp or training of any sort to prepare for the military. The high school meets requests Marine recruiters or drill instructors to inspect and judge each team. They do not intend to train or even belittle/bully the cadets. The cadets are judged on precision, bearing (composure of emotion and body), and knowledge. These cadets in the video did an outstanding job and they have obviously took much time into practice and study for this event. I wish I had the capabilities to preform like these team members. JROTC is not a gateway towards the military, it is a citizenship class based on military discipline and leadership. These drill teams are also completely optional and cadets choose to do these.

Jr Punzalan Well, technically the option to get a higher pay grade could be considered as a gateway into the Armed Forces.

E-2 -- Authorized enlistment in, or advancement to, paygrade E2 having provided evidence of successful completion of two years of a Junior ROTC Program. @@mtnmedic4803 I've told people that JROTC can work wonders before coming in. When I went to Army basic (didn't pass due to minor injury/mental stuff), the Drill Sergeants sucked at explaining drill that we learned in about 4 days time in HS. Took forever to learn basic facing movements because there's so much other crap to get done in a day to stay on schedule. Whereas in HS, you can dedicate an entire "day", less than 3 hours, to drill and have it perfect. Single out the ones who don't get it and don't speak up and fix them.

***** fortunately for today's military, it's already been proven that officer's in both the UK and America wouldn't have made it to even the rank of Captain when they were General's in the military of WW1 and WW2. The standards have changed, whether a solder agrees with that or not is another story. For example, Paton had no problem sending men out to die at the cost of completing the mission. Most of us find that honorable, not crazy, but he would have never even made it past Officer Candidate School in today's military. So the question is, are we screwing a lot of good leadership out of the ability to lead because of changing the rulebook, or are today's officers better than yesterday's officers?

Dan Nichols Actually.... That was literally the worst Color Guard performance I have ever seen in my entire life. And for them to be a Marine unit is even funnier because they have Marine instructors. My NJROTC Color Guard is wayyyy better!. The cuts were off, the command voice was terrible and the commands were executed wrong for the flag carriers. Then again, the instructor for my high school's drill is a Sgt. Maj. and a former Drill Instructor... so that's probably why we rock it. Oh and my drill team is the 5th best in the United States.
@MrCarabajal5759 жыл бұрын
Zach Gatheral the accolades of your Color Guard Unit hold no purpose in the real world. JROTC's purpose is to teach cadets how to contribute to society in a positive manner "to motivate young people to be better citizens." Sound familiar Cadet? Bragging about your achievements over the web certainly isn't a positive contribution to real world issues. It most certainly is not a behavior condoned by any JROTC Program. 5th best in the US, does it really matter. What good does a label/title do you later on in life. Nothing, it is just there, you accomplished that yes, it is good thing. Ultimately it is just an achievement you have made in life. It does not elevate you in status over others. Be humble and learn when it is appropriate to share such information. A wise man knows when to hold his tongue. Be the wise man.

I did color guard at my bro-law's Marine Corps Ball. I never done it before and got a crash course on it prior too. One thing's for sure - it's tough when the high brass is eye-balling you. But I did good and was proud to be a part of it. These Junior Marines did fairly well, and they should be just as proud to guard our colors. We take it very serious.
@vincentreyes61542 жыл бұрын
Their bearing and maintenance of their discipline and collectiveness during this whole inspection was so professional. I was a shy and awkward kid in high school. If I was in JROTC and was getting inspected by DI's, I would have stammered so badly and trembled. (Oh, and I understand what you're trying to address the JROTC cadets as, but it's an incorrect address to call them "junior Marines". That sounds like "junior enlisted" the terms for enlisted Marines ranking from E-1 to E-3 (Private, Private First Class, and Lance Corporal) These cadets aren't Marines. They're just high school students in the JROTC program to be better more disciplined citizens by training with military regulations and customs. They didn't go through basic training. So although a mistake, it's still incorrect to call them "junior Marines)

Graduation is only a few days away, and the recruits of Platoon 3092 are salty. They are ready to eat their own guts and ask for seconds. The drill instructors are proud to see that we are growing beyond their control. The Marine Corps does not want robots. The Marine Corps wants killers. The Marine Corps wants to build indestructible men, men without fear.

Some people do not accept that another person is yelling in front you. Or do not want to serve your country for this situation. To be Military is to have discipline, respect, courage when others people do not have it. It is sacrifice and love for your country. Love your country when another guys are on the street looking for victims. This is a little part of the formation. It is Genesis 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼‼️

I have seen several post here speaking about how "if you havent gone through bootcamp "then you do not have the right to wear the dress uniform" For me I have been in the air force for 5 years all of which have been stationed overseas. For me I have no problem with what these kids are doing and I think its great that there learning military discipline from a young age. I see a ton of young kids go into the military and they struggle for whatever reason. But I have also served with some who had that prior experience with color-guard in high school and it always seemed to me that they were some of the best people to work with. Yea, they have not gone through BMT...so what? Their bettering themselves by putting on that uniform and either helping there community which I know some JROTC programs do and or there competing in competitions. So yea for me I have no problem with seeing that and I think its great.

I am a 56 year old retired cop,,, and when that JROTC member said, "Because this cadet is carrying the colors, sir!", I actually had tears! Respect for our Flag, Country, History,,, is something I don't see these days often! But to see there are young men and women who wish to gain the discipline, knowledge, respect, and possibly in their future serve this Country and all the wonderful things it stands for,, makes me well up inside and feel proud for these youngsters!! God Bless our Military, and God Bless America!
