The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor is a fifth-generation, single-seat, twin-engine, all-weather stealth tactical fighter aircraft developed for the United States Air Force (USAF). The result of the USAF's Advanced Tactical Fighter program, the aircraft was designed primarily as an air superiority fighter, but also has ground attack, electronic warfare, and signal intelligence capabilities. The prime contractor, Lockheed Martin, built most of the F-22's airframe and weapons systems and did its final assembly, while Boeing provided the wings, aft fuselage, avionics integration, and training systems.
The aircraft was variously designated F-22 and F/A-22 before it formally entered service in December 2005 as the F-22A. After a protracted development and despite operational issues, the USAF considers the F-22 critical to its tactical air power, and says that the aircraft is unmatched by any known or projected fighter. The Raptor's combination of stealth, aerodynamic performance, and situational awareness gives the aircraft unprecedented air combat capabilities.

True, the USAF continually pushes the boundaries and the design of their planes look futuristic. I remember first seeing the Stealth bombers used in the Gulf War unveiled for the first time to the world and thinking damn these look like ALIEN crafts hovering in the air, perhaps Area 51 does have alien ships the USAF has adapted he he.

I'm so lucky to get the opportunity to watch this jet almost everyday for years at Langley. The pilots job was to try and break it and they did an excellent job at trying. The moves it can make in the air are nothing short of incredible and something you have to see with your own eyes to truly appreciate. This video is among one of the best that show some of the things it can do; hopefully one day someone will catch a video of it doing a 180 and flying backwards before shooting back out the other direction. One of the coolest things I seen this jet do besides practically just parking in the sky without stalling out then tumbling down and blasting off again. I could go on and on about it but I'll leave it at that. Great video

I'm not a pilot, but I'm pretty sure that if you aim right at the ground when flying, you'll break it 😂. More seriously, I can't wait for the day of AI controlled drones. Currently, the limiting factor for jets is mostly the pilot's ability to take Gs. The max is around 9Gs, which is basically like weighing 9x your normal weight. I really want to see if we can design jets that can literally "turn on a dime" 👀.

What made me come look for this is today, here in Alaska, 4 F-22's from Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, went on a courtesy flight over many towns on the peninsula to show respect for all the caregivers and first responders. They flew low and slow as possible right over these towns just to say thank you, And then, just like fighter jets will do, they were gone in an instant. What a fine gesture of appreciation. Greetings to all from Seward, Alaska. Be safe.

This is pretty insane. To give you all some context I am a US Marine Sergeant working in the Airwing side of the Marine Corps. To see how maneuverable this plane is with low amounts of airflow going through the wings is quite ridiculous. The F-18s I've worked on were considered very maneuverable but this is a whole new level. That final loop the plane literally "kited" with its wings taking upwards force... you just can't do that with older jet fighters and expect them not to stall or stay in one piece for that matter.

The trouble is they still need an f15 to do actually war, and awac for radar. These Jets require radar support to fly, and liason jets to translate and transcribe the info. That is the weakness of the plane and what our enemies are targeting. They will go for the support aircraft so that there planes are forced to turn in radar. Thus negating stealth.

@@fifty784 just show - the P51s are privately owned. I believe this video was shot at the annual Reno Air Races - modified P-51s and other WWII planes are raced around a pylon course in the Unlimited Class races.

In May 2015 I got to stand watch for 12 hours to guard an F-22. Had a warning near the plane and if anyone crossed we were authorized to use deadly force. Was pretty awesome stuff.
