This is the job I wish I would have went with when I joined. I grew up in San Diego so the only option in school was Spanish. But the Navy sent me to a 480 hr Japanese language school where I watched everyone else complain while I loved it. Get to practice everyday with my Japanese wife.

If you speak one Latin language then it's easy to learn another Latin language including Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Romanian, Catalan, Sicilian, Napoletano, Gallego, Piedmontese etc.

My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!

I am from Santa Cruz and always heard about DLI, it was cool seeing what you all do, are the students allowed to pick their language of study or is it what is needed at time like arabic etc
@dylanbrewer37896 жыл бұрын
Duncan35 it’s based on needs of the time, but most people have the opportunity to at least pick from a few different languages. Selections are actually made in boot camp

It’s based on dlab scores and the needs of the navy but you can put in for your favorites at boot camp- it’s not a guarantee

DLI does not support German for its military personnel. The Navy only offers Chinese, Korean, Russian, Persian Farsi, and Arabic at this time. Spanish and Hebrew were recently removed.
