In 27 years, as a letter carrier, I've been bit by dogs, stung by bees, attacked by Mockingbirds, slapped by a mentally challenged girl, broke my ankle twice, been in a car accident in both my car and a postal vehicle (not my fault), had plantar's foot, had many customers scream at me for little things, screwed up my knee, worked in blazing 98 degree weather, delivered in blizzards, hurricanes, and darkness, and a few other minor things. Now, at 59, I'm ready to call it quits. Too many changes to a banged up body to keep going.

@@sandramontoya1463 Thank you, Sandra. That was very thoughtful to make that comment. The Postal Service has changed a lot since when I started in 1994. Unfortunately, everything from wages to workload have gone down hill. When I started there was no internet or Amazon. There were more letters, but w/ Amazon the job is more like UPS. Packages are the revenue maker, today. Also, automation extended the routes by downsizing the number of routes which made the routes much longer. Hell, there were no scanners when I started, and the routes were easier. I'm sorry to hear you injured your ankle. If the job was like it is today back in 1994, I would of quit, but it didn't get real bad until towards the end of my career. Best of luck, Sandra. Whether you grind it out there and hope it gets better or seek other employment, I wish you the best of luck.

I thought about CCA but then went RCA here in AZ cause when I applied I never knew there were two different types of carrier positions. I enjoy being an RCA a ton honestly. Most of our routes are cbus and mounted..still though, things are rural and a ton of long drive ways. So, you wouldn’t expect it, but I walk a ton. I’ve lost a ton of weight. Anyway, we’re both doing the same thing and we’re all serving the American public

Shoot I get in 25,000 steps in daily. I walk tons as a RCA. I do love my relaxed uniform. We have enough LLVs so we dont need to use our cars. I've moved up seniority fast too. Also the more routes you learn the more time you get. I've been working tons personally. I don't get how you CCAs live at work long ass hours. In a yr I've only been out at 9pm 3x. But like you stated every area is different. Regardless of our title we are all family. Over Xmas my longest stretch was 16 dys lol With so many out with covid/vacation we are coming in at 6am helping with parcels then starting our routes early. Since we help with parcels thats extra pay, our if we go out and rescue our coworkers that again is separate/added pay. Our office is rural but not really country with so many developments being built. Monday was brutal lol. Thanks for sharing your pros and cons 🙂
@adventuresofadan5037
@adventuresofadan5037 2 жыл бұрын
That is true. If you ask me I think they should get rid of both crafts and make one just so it’s equal and we are never short to cover routes. That’s a lot of steps is that a regular day on a route you know or because parcels have picked up
@chantaym5065
@chantaym5065 2 жыл бұрын
Those are regular steps from wake up to going home. I take parcels to the door if they can't fit in cluster box, not all of them have working parcels lockers. I honestly didn't know between the 2 crafts there was a big difference. I was so active before I started here and now it's cut back more due to just that time sitting driving or between stops. Also I'd a court has to many cars I try to park and walk it. Unfortunately not getting paid for those steps due to evaluated route. But it saves me from trying to maneuver that truck between horrible parking. This week we are down 5 routes and 2 subs. Yesterday I did my round 2 splits 🤦🏽‍♀️ Tired is a understatement lol

Neither, don’t waste your time at usps, they are understaffed, I worked as a cca for a full year and it was good pay but I barely had anytime to do anything with my family & life, 7 days a week they will work you sometimes no break until 25-30 days, 5 degree weather home at 9pm every night because they’d give us 2 pivots on top of our route, everything is outdated, supervisors are horrible they fucking hate their lives, (no joke). The one thing I noticed at usps was that everyone was so fucking miserable lol after I resigned it was the best feeling of relief. Respect to new cca’s still hanging in there because usps will lie to every new cca and rca in orientation, they are so desperate for help. Find something you love to do, don’t waste your time here unless you really want this to be your life… seriously don’t let this turn into your life.

Great video, Adan! I just received conditional offers for both CCA and RCA for the town in which I live. It is a pretty small town (around 4,000 people). I am on the fence as to which one to accept. Do you know anything about the benefits of CCA vs RCA as it pertains to Insurance, vacation time, sick leave, holiday pay, things of that nature? Also, do you know which position is faster to becoming a career employee? I worry a little about having to use my POV as an RCA because I don't want to put the wear and tear on it. Any knowledge you could give me would be greatly appreciated!
@adventuresofadan5037
@adventuresofadan5037 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah man. As a CCA you do accumulate Annual leave(vacation time) compared to RCA you don’t. You don’t get sick leave for either also. But I do also know the RCA contact should be getting updated soon too. As for benefits I’ve only had them as a cca they been good thus far. But your in a tricky situation because depending how fast your town is growing will also depend how fast you move up. Because you don’t know which side is growing like in my town I live in a town of 90-100,000 but all the routes are now going to RCA sides because the way the boxed in the city

@jmer3536
@jmer3536 2 жыл бұрын
CCA makes more money than any RCA due to the overtime per day. Both positions you will be working a lot and going back out to cover down routes on a daily basis. You make PTF then career way faster in CCA vs RCA. Less earned benefits in RCA vs CCA. I know of several stations with CCA that use Vans unlike RCA which is almost exclusively LLV. Career City vs Career Rural is a toss up. You have evaluated time for Rural but its basically salary pay. Yeah you can finish your route in less time, but No extra money unless overtime is approved and you actually want that. City carriers still get overtime pay. The City side has a uniform and the RCA is you buy your own clothes. I personally wouldnt recommend either position unless you are young and have or want to have no life. If you are older and have a family then CCA and RCA will be your life as well. This is not including the over burdened routes and what station you work with etc on top of that This is a simplified basic explanation of how these jobs actually work
@nataleeolson3650
@nataleeolson3650 7 ай бұрын
PTF and UAR are two completely different things. As a PTF you still are at the mercy of the hours available within the office. They are no different hour wise as a CCA. It is just a career position other then a non career. A URA is guaranteed 40 hours a week just not assigned to a specific route.

Yeah man so it’s 19.06 starting pay then times that by how much the route is evaluated at. For example 19.06 x 9 hours that’s also including casing the mail and that will be your pay. Also I think the RCAs are getting a new contract soon. As for using your POV all that you put into it you can use as a tax write off from gas to maintenance. So your paying for everything you put into your car. But if you use a LLV you don’t have to worry about any of that. Also keep in mind when you finish your route they may have you do pieces of other routes but I can’t remember if you go straight to hourly time after that. Isn't it a conflict of interest, what company has its own union, paying their own employees to represent union members paying monthly $60 union dues, gaining no money for winning grievances, when you can, for free, file an EEO within 45 days of Usps offenses, winning up to $300,000. for discrimination and up to $4 million for retaliation? Usps union is complicit with Usps management, practicing patterns of racism, retaliation against whistleblowers, also discrimination and retaliation against injured on duty disabled employees! See McConnell vs Usps, Pittman vs Usps, Glover vs Usps, and many, many more cases for decades! Past 5 years Usps paid out $5,631,795. for sexual harassment. Exercise your legal rights under federal protection Laws, No Fear act of 2002, prohibited personnel practices, due process, equality act of 2010, civil rights act chapter of 7, rehabilitation act of 1973 (504), and disability act. CYA!!! Don't be duped into paying $60 monthly union dues, × 12 = $720 annually, × a 30 year career = $21,600.
