In the United States, the registered nurse is the eyes and ears of the physician, as MDs are not in the hospitals 24/7. The US Registered Nurses are relied upon to apply their skills in assessing patients and determining the outcomes of interventions applied, and looking at the responses to treatment. Many international nurses struggle initially with the scope of their role because of the expectation of USRN autonomy.
