The detail (modeling work) on the boat launches really make the overall Ship Model.

You are doing a fantastic job buddy!!! I would love to see you bend that PE tho! I am very new to PE and as you may remember I am doing the 1:350 version. Seeing the racks for the boats and how many bends there are, YIKES! a little intimidating! She is a beautiful ship! The crew would be proud of the job you are doing!!!

One of the gigs is likely designated as the admiral's barge, then there's Captain's gig, with the others used as the ship's officers liberty boats. There are not a not of places where you can tie up to a pier with ships of this size, hence the liberty boats. When I was in the Med (on a carrier) we tied up once in a 6-month cruise. All other ports were done by liberty boats, When leaving the ship (or shore), the most junior officer always loaded first followed by increasingly senior officers. That way the most senior officers get off first.

You could have used woodputty to fill up the holes in the deck, they come in many colors and would not leave white spots on the deck. (Woodputty is used to repair dents in parquet floors)

Have you thought about buying a disk punch and making disks to cover the holes and raise the boat racks that way??
@TheMidwestModelShop6 жыл бұрын
WEST COAST MODEL BATTLESHIPS so I have a disc punch and I was thinking about using it to put holes in masking tape, to mask the deck and make filling the holes easier. Then I thought about using it to punch wooden deck plugs out of the left overs from the deck. But the punch and the holes were not exactly the same size. That is when I decided to just carefully fill the holes the old fashioned way.

Ever wonder why the Iowa class never had lifeboats?
@TheMidwestModelShop3 жыл бұрын
They figured she'd never need them ; ) No, its because she's a warship. If she goes down, you're going into the water. You'll hang onto the rafts and floaters.

She coming great. Did you heat the PE before bending it?
@benkonczal45846 жыл бұрын
USS SARATOGA CV3 LeFevre So for this section of PE, no I didn't. I wanted the racks for the boats to be rigid. So I just bent the metal as is. I should have annealed the railing before bending it. It was a little springy. As a rule, I usually only anneal things that need to be bent a lot. Like seatbelts or something that needs to be bent round.

The boats with the motors and oars are called "Mike boats"
