I do not know what your granpape did . I honor his service, and all Americans who have served. But I cannot help but think, that with Naval aviation jocks, flight deck hands, cat shooters, LSO team, armorers and maintainers in hangar deck, there are also engineering snipes that had to keep plumbing and sanitation equipment working, cooks to make meals, and ship's printing press publishing ship's newspaper. Some poor rating had to get grief, if CO's commode did not flush. Public does not see them, media don't cover them. They do their jobs, then either retire after 20, or do their 4 and go on to productive civilian lives. To DOD , they become just another SSN on DD-214. But I think of them. I was Army Res. officer (13A).

of Imperial Navy Air Station pointed us out to the clerk of the local liqour store to keep an eye open on us. We had thought our exapaids were unknown until this officer explained that his shipmate was the ExO of the Conny and told him of our exploits at sea. He inturn asked us to re-up and he would have us transfered to his base on special assignments. Our inlistments were up, I was married and we turned him down. his offer. Worst mistake I ever made as the MOST fun I had my whole life
