@Josh_Fredman 6 жыл бұрын
I don't think he has the gravitas of a starship captain. Sort of like how Spock never could fill Kirk's shoes during all those times he commanded the Enterprise. I don't think Saru is being written as a captain. Actually, there's no one on the cast (other than the ex-Emperor) who has the gravitas of a captain. So unless they're going to make Yeoh a regular (and she's a movie star, so I doubt she would want to be tied down to television), they're either going to have to introduce someone new or dramatically revise one of the existing characters. (Possibly Saru, but I honestly do not see it.)

"Whiny reply" Are you kidding me? The only reason I responded (to a comment which has been cowardly deleted) was because literally every single Discovery video has nothing but "This isn't muh trek, why don't the console look like Ikea furniture painted red" comments under it. Piss off and leave people who actually live in 2018 to enjoy a new show. People like him and apparently you, are the definition of toxic fandom. You are ruining all corners of geek culture with your attitude. "Star Trek Fans" is a classic "no true scotsman" argument. It does not hold water. Alcubierre's design is like a Dyson sphere or any other number of speculative tech. You can't just draw a cool picture, claim credit but leave it to engineers to actually figure out how to harness the impossible amounts of energy involved. It's fantasy in the same way that any technology beyond our projected capabilities is. (I hear what your saying about replicators and 3d printing though. Can't wait to press print and pick my dinner up 12 hours later....) The point I'm trying to make is that Discovery is a Trek show. I've watched them all and all the movies and every single criticism of it seems to boil down to that the lead is a black woman and nothing to do with the speculative ideas. TOS has literal Gods in it. The whole of DS9 revolved around mystical beings who controlled a stable wormhole. I don't think expoitable space fungus is much of a stretch of the imagination.

The way I see it is that not everyone has the same opinion about Star Trek Discovery. I can respect that... but if I had to review Star Trek Discovery, i think its a great show. I was looking forward to watching it when I heard it was coming. I am impressed by the cast, the ships, gadgets, and storyline. Granted of course its not like the predecessors but thats really ok though. What i learned is that not all Star Trek T.V. shows are perfect. I also learned that there were going to be flaws but it did not matter. For flaws are also part of the beauty. As i said I can respect peoples opinion about Discovery. Because their opinion is theirs.

If you've seen the series you'll know what I mean if not then look it up it's my no.1 favourite star trek being my second favourite because in Andromeda there is more action & the ships are more unique in design & much faster.

I did like the various Commonwealth ships. Andromeda was actually an older veteran class (Glorious Heritage). The newer class (Siege Perilous) ships were like the "Balance of Judgement" deep space battle and command platforms capable of assaulting entire star systems. Smaller but in essence, one big launch platform.

@@dark_ops1651 The red angel suit. And specifically sending Discovery 1000 years into the future. My humble opinion there was so much fun to be had in the pre Kirk days of Starfleet. I didn’t pay any attention to the “woke”-ness stuff. I enjoyed Michael Burnam, couldn’t give a flip she was black whatever. It just seems Star Trek showrunners have a fascination with time travel. Same thing happened with Enterprise. To me it’s just boring and an excuse not to write solid material.

for me it was mostly the intro themes & the starship designs that kept me interested through all 5 seasons. The Andromeda Ascendant is the most unique design I have ever seen besides the Orville. The action is pretty good to but the visuals need a complete rebuild in 2018 if anyone ever wan'ts to do that. I like Andromeda more than star trek because it has more action & better more unique ship designs

If I remember correctly every other instance in Trek where someone grabbed someone while they were being transported they materialized on the pad together, so why in this instance did Burnham and the Emperor materialize on separate pads? Simple oversight by the director, or was it intentional?
@Pavel_M_Mihalik
@Pavel_M_Mihalik 2 жыл бұрын
Does it really matter? Maybe the transporter operator chose to separate them, because he thought the Emperor grabbed Michael and wanted to hurt her (like L’Rell grabbed Ash while he and Cornwell were leaving the Sarcophagus).
