USS Gerald R. Ford Enters the Solent

US Nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford visits the UK Navy in Solent from 14th to 18th November 2022.

Thanks for hosting our ship for a port visit. In the 80s I served in the US Navy and visited Portsmouth 3 times, all great visits. The British people are brilliant and our closest friends, and I am grateful for the hospitality and generosity shown every time I've visited. Please forgive our young people if they misbehave while on liberty, after all they are Americans.

Nice one Kev...back in the 60's was a barman in the Gaiety Lounge on South Parade Pier in Southsea. when a large USN Carrier and escorts arrived.....was always so impressed by just how smart and polite the American officers and sailors were! One asked me if we sold pretzels...could only supply him with potato crisps... Later on, nearby Southsea Common was heaving with yanks and ladies of the night doing late night exercises

I saw of video of the HMS Queen Elizabeth carrier entering New York harbor recently. Great to see these two allies welcoming each other's war ships for ports of call at their great, coastal cities.

Glad our new carrier gets to have brief short rest an allows our sailors get nice liberty like I looked forward to on my first ship in 7th fleet The orient express Afs4 USS white plains My ship deployed all over Asia My favorite port of call gorgeous Pattaya beach and Phuket we were 5 navy ship to dock in Phuket in 1982-83 Gorgeous resort tropics nation Thailand That was my favorite then second favorite was freemantle Perth western Australia where we did dock 10 nights

@@PompeyMatt17 It's 60% larger, has more systems on board, carries a full strike package of different aircraft. The air wing alone is 2500 personnel. The QE class doesn't even have the capability of aerial refueling or COD which are two essential combat capabilities.

I plan on fly to Bangkok Thailand from lax and taking Thailand greyhound bus from airport in that city not staying just going right to Pattaya beach which think it's over 100 miles not sure Feb3-23 I plan to return to my favorite and cheap Pattaya beach in navy after my 7 deployments made with our carrier strike group deployed in Indian ocean giving them food and mail

I loved my bb62 that was hard work but not as hard as my deck dept job in gorgeous yokosuka 7th fleet duties I did on afs4 Real long hours but great liberty ports we visited my first two years in navy on that ship at age 17-19 years old I was in first Lebanon war 80s I did active duty

So while this is really cool, I would rather have them quietly go out to sea and conduct operations and be ready to fight on a moments notice.
