In 1971 to 1973 I proudly served aboard the USS John Paul Jones (DDG-32) while Admiral Gravely was our Fleet Commander. Being an African American, I was proud to be under his leadership and even prouder TODAY KNOWING THIS MAN IS SO HONORED. i DID GET TO PERSONALLLY MEET HIM AND FOUND HIM TO BE TRULY A MAN OF STATUE AND DIGNITY.

Great video. Great ship and admirable sailors. Mine is a proud US Navy family, as well. Just a note... although the USS North Carolina performed superbly in WWII and was awarded 15 battle stars it was the USS Enterprise that was the most decorated.

And that’s why Gene Roddenberry choose the USS Enterprise as the premier star ship for his creation of Star Trek. Roddenberry was a US Army Air Corps pilot as well during the war.

I served under Admiral Gravely. A man who always stopped to talk with us nocoms.i don't mean in chit chat I mean in ships terms what we thought it how we thought systems and things could be better and such. The only higher up officer that ever did that constantly. I'm no longer in the navy but man would I love to serve on board this ship.

A brand new ship and about 1/2 the crew has never had a second of at-sea experience? So there is "on the job" training as well as making sure everyone is oriented to the new vessel?

Cats 01 > Yes Cats , training is always ongoing, constant, all the time. That ship is a lethal weapon. It's crew needs to be able to implement it and bring it's weapons to bear instantly, automatically, without thinking about it in order to use it for it's intended purpose. That requires everyone knowing what to do and how to do it right without hesitation. A country's Navy is a projection of it's military power, A show of it's strength and in the case of the U.S. Navy and other "free world" countries it's mission is to protect our shores as well as ensuring free passage, that is, without interference by others, of commerce ships throughout the world's oceans. As a proud U.S. NAVY veteran, I just gotta say it, Go NAVY !!!🤣🇺🇸
