Brief history of the USS LST 325 using actual WWII footage from beaches where the USS LST-325 served from the National Archives.
Watch LSTs at the invasion of Italy, loading tank decks on the British coast, and in action at Normandy. The films are presented without commentary, so you are free to add your own or to ask a WWII veteran to tell the story.
After the War, the 325 was activated in the 1950s and ultimately transferred for service to the Greek Navy in 1964.
In 2000, the ship was acquired by The USS Ship Memorial, rehabilitated in Crete by volunteers and WWII veterans (The “Gold Crew”), and sailed 6,500 miles back across the Atlantic to Mobile, Alabama in January 2001.
Since 2005, Evansville, Indiana, on the Ohio River has been the home port of the 325, from which it regularly embarks on voyages throughout US waterways to visit cities where visitors can experience living history - one of the last remaining fully operational WWII ships.
Produced by Lloyd Charney and Susan Bednarczyk to benefit the USS LST Ship Memorial.
